SRT is taking .03cpm out of drivers pay on there per diem pay. My pay was to be .32cpm but my settlements only show .29cpm SRT says it's the taxes that make up for the .03cpm Is this legal or not.

I'm no lawyer, but unless that was contractually agreed upon... no, I don't think any company can force you to participate in a "per diem" program.

legal but b.s., no one should charge you for per diem. Another question, are you new? Why are you only making $.32 a mile?

Run, Run, Run, they are charging you .03 to keep your money. Do you pay the bank 20% of your check to deposit in your account. That is what they are doing. Very shady business practice.
Now, if you do the per diem thing, and they don't charge an administrative fee, then it is OK, to a point.
Personally, i take my pay straight up, and the write the per diem off on my taxes when i file each year. That way i know i am getting the fairest use of my money.

E-mail I recived from SRT's payroll department. I have attached a copy of your driver pay sheet showing the starting pay rate of $0.32 per mile along with the per diem $0.03 reduction for a visible pay amount of $0.29. The per diem program reduces your taxable gross pay by $0.15 and then reimburses (after tax) $0.12 per diem. The program enables the driver to show less taxable income and increase take home pay weekly. The program is mandatory for the first 90 days and then you have the option to come off of it and be paid (and taxed) on the full $0.32. Is this legal!

I have seen/heard this being done by some companies... not really a huge deal as long as you can change it after the 90 days.

As a previous poster stated, it probably is legal... but B.S.

It sucks but you signed up for it and they explain it and sign paperwork on it in orientation. Typical month they are keeping $300 of your pay, plus hundreds of other drivers as well.

    Yes it is legal.
Yes there are " pros "
Yes there are " cons "
At orientation one of the speakers ( ? ) pointed out the good and the bad , and had
    the numbers to show same.
If it doesn't fit your criteria then opt out after the 90 days.
