So are you saying they stink because:

A. They really do stink and you have some sort of proof?
B. They won't hire you?

I see. That sucks. Also, they'd have to pay you more than someone fresh out of school.

Star

So what is the lastest on Star ? They seem to get drivers home every weekend, is this so ? No west coast, no Canada, decent miles from what I have heard ( 2500 wk ) and steady work. Can any body add anything or tell me more about them ? I know they are lower on the pay scale, but very seldom have to touch a load. Like to hear what others have heard. I finish school next week and get my cdl, so I will be making my final decission soon. Remember this is Star out of Morton, Il.

I doubt you’ll get 2500 miles a week, but they will get you home 3 out of every 4 weekends. The more home time you get the less miles you will have. Expect 2200 miles a week and you most likely won't be disappointed.

I see them all the time here in Indiana. They haul freight for Caterpilliar (HQ Peoria, IL - a few miles from Morton) and Cat has 2 large plants in Indiana. I must say they appear to have really nice trucks.

I have a very good friend that went to work for them just out of school. Had to sign a 1 year contract. He is home every other weekend. He got out of training and was given a truck about 2 months ago. He usually runs about 2000 miles a week. He has had one load to Canada but for the most part he spends his time here in the south. Haven't heard him complain other than when he was training they had three people in the truck and they ran almost non stop for three weeks.
That's a little to close for me.

who STAR (IL) hires

keep in mind that they won't do any employment checks on your past work history!! all of you that think your owed the world and want to complain were probably turned down by every other company because of your previous job history. Star is a great place for those that need the resume to build up, plus don't they run w/ the better equipment? do your year and hope you can move on if it will help your work history.....

Dumptruck

been a while, but yeah they are still doing the same #####. my buddy has 5 months experience and now star has him training people. since there turnover rate is so high, they started there own school. i quit and i did find a local job with limited experience. i refuse to believe that you have to be chained like most of you noobs are to a company that thinks you owe them your life. get you experience from the company that took you from school and look for other ops. if you don't like it. talk to drivers that drive for the company you look at and not just these forums. some people will always cry if there toast is not fully toasted,if you get my drift. go union if you can. so far i see alot more union drivers that like there jobs or are treated better and paid for it. plus they also have training programs. STAR is a s>>>hole and saftey is not a concern or your well being. anyways i got on a rant. ah, who wants pie? lol

go unions!!!!!!

Nopark Star no contract

according to the star rep that visited us today, they have no contract to sign. If you decide to leave you decide to leave. I also heard that Roehl makes you sign a two-year contract and you have to work of $1800 of training in that two years. Is this true? I do not want to work for a company that I have to sign a contract with if possible, any help would be great.
