Forbidden Exclamation GARC doesn't have a clue...

Star does not have old trucks...2yrs and newer is not old. Make an appointment for your maintenance and it doesn't take forever. Yard accommodates trucks just fine in Nashville. Atlanta yard is smaller, but that is NOT where you get serviced. Check DOT ratings rather than relying on negative drivers. Star STILL has one of the best ratings on safety and equipment according to DOT and that is what matters. Miles are coming back up, but the slowdown was not just at Star...it is all over due to the very poor economy. When nobody is buying, nobody is shipping. That has nothing to do with Star or Covenant. I am glad to still be at Star.
I am amazed at what I read here...alot of bull. Hometime is still great, equipment is newer and in good condition, and Covenant has not change anything that I am aware of. The people still smile and talk to you when you come in. When they don't, it's because they are busting their butts making sure to find the drivers loads, at a time when the economy doesn't have much to offer trucking. Believe, since they are paid based on how well their trucks run, these dispatchers do want you running miles so they are not shorting you on purpose on those slow weeks.
All in all, after doing time with a total of 15 companies in my years and years of driving, I am still willing to say Star has almost everything a trucker needs. Yes, I do see the NE more than I care to, but it's miles and it's what I do...it's also the reason I get better miles than many...I do my job and Star rewards that. Big baby.

Card Heart It's all good...

Pay scale is higher than average for those drivers in their 1st year or two, after 2 yrs experienced, then pay is average scale. Trucks were recently cut back and depending on experience, speed will change, but they do give speed increase when you meet mpg goals. They are a good company. The Covenant buyout has not changed them. The crappy economy makes things tougher on all trucking companies. Hometime varies by where you live but most drivers work 3 weekends per year and are home all the others. Hometime is actually respected at Star...come join the family...cuz that's how they make me feel.
