I have been driving on my own for Star (IL) for little over 7 months. Is it the perfect company?? No. What company is when you're first starting out?? None that I've heard about. I have to say that my experience with Star has been fairly positive overall. On average, I get about 2000 miles per week. Some weeks are great and some stink. That's life, as far as I know. I have a very good dispatcher, who seems to care about my home priorities and my road needs. Maybe, I got lucky. I can't speak for other dispatchers at Star. As for my experiences with Safety and Shop at Star, I can point to good and bad ones. Again, that's life. Also, some loads stink and others are awesome. Again, that's life. Overall, I think that I've gotten a pretty good deal with Star. I would recommend this company to any student looking to start a career.

stardriver810,
did they make you sign a contract to drive for a year -
this company stinks to high heaven. i got my start there in july 1998 right out of driving school. that's when they had the old pete's w/ coffin sleepers. it was a nightmare the whole time i was there, but i tuffed it out to get one year in at my 1st company to make my record look kinda ok to other companys. i made 24 cpm and probably took home 400-500 a week. it is a bottom of the barrel company in every way. i would not recommend this company to anybody, unless you never want to be home for any holidays, want to be treated like dog puke, and never make any real money...... 'nuff said
