All settled in at the luxurious accommodations of the DaZs Inn in beautiful crime free Morton IL graciously provided me by Star Transport. :biggrin_25512: The terminal is a short walk, hell could almost hit it with a rock. A little anxious. :biggrin_2556: I've read the forum and concluded that this is as good as starter company as any, and might as well give them a shot. We'll see what tomorrow brings. If anything really strange or out of the ordinary happens I let you folks know.

Day one complete. 1 strange thing to me; I have to pay for my DOT Physical, (which I already had) and drug test. $20 out of each payroll for 5 payrolls. That just seems wrong to me. :biggrin_25513:

Day 5 completed. Hit the road Wednesday with my trainer and drove 11 hours out of the box. Wasn't forced too, it was my choice. It quickly became painfully obvious to me that my trainer is a human being. He makes mistakes. He makes lots of mistakes. Hell, remember those JJ Keller videos in class? The guy at the weight station? He reminds me of that guys. He could be the poster child for things not to do as a truck driver. Before I started driving I would see a big truck going down the road and say to myself, "There's a professional driver. Safe, experienced, and all business." After being in the cab with this guy a couple of days it changes my perception. I'm plan on sticking it out with this guy. He's not SUPER dangerous. As long as he doesn't expect me to break too many laws we'll be ok. Besides, if I ask for another trainer I might get The NAZI Trainer from hell. Not gonna rock the boat. I'll just do my time, learn as much as I can, (he has been driving for 7 years and has to know more than my rookie ###).

Fired my trainer today. I have no doubt that he is a big part of the reason that Star's CSA scores are the absolute worst of any company I've looked up. http://ai.fmcsa.dot.gov/sms/data/carrier.aspx?enc=gTL6iCNFbvMtn3OKzSRdkQ== DOT has setup shop in our shop. I did learn alot. I learned how to falsify log books; How to eyeball your cargo, guess at the tandums, and hold your breath going across the weigh station; How to eat baked chicken with mash potatoes and gravey while driving; How not to EVER do a pre-trip, (don't got time for that); How to talk sweet to your mystress or talk down to your wife while driving with no headset; How to block the fule isle not getting any fuel while inside for 30 or more minutes; How to not report broken trailers, simply because no one told him it was broke, and that's just the high spots. When I told safety that I wanted a new trainer, they didn't even ask why. Back to the Daz Inn tomorrow and hope for a new trainer Monday.

Training day 15. Star is really on the ball. They got me back to the terminal and a new trainer before 10am. I don't know what's going to happen to my former trainer, but I did overhear something about it being his last chance. DUNNO. My new trainer and I are scheduled to head out for Texas tonight. Star Transport really impressed me today.

Training day 21. New trainer is great. Knows his stuff, good teacher, easy to get along with. On an hours reset now. We drove close to 4000 miles this past week. I feel like I'm getting the training I need now. I don't think I'll retire with Star, but it's a good place to get some experience for a rookie driver.

    Speaking of Trainers...

I've been with one now at a local company for a bit over a week. First two days he drove and I learned other stuff like how to unload a pnuematic tanker.

This week I've done all of the driving. A lot of driving lol.

This whole time we've swapped a couple stories, went back and forth on possesion of a fire arm as a means of comfort (or not) what kind of trucks, cars, boats, etc etc..

But this whole time, he never cracked a smile. Never laughed. Never told a joke.

I tried to get him with the one asking about the last thing on a bug's mind when it hits the windshield, he heard it before.

But today, a miracle... An old timer who had been driving for 40yrs came up to me today in front of my trainer as I was unloading and said to me "You're doing fine. Hang in there. You have a GREAT attitude. Keep it up"

Obviously, this made me feel good.
So after he left, I nudged my Trainer (it's loud due to a PTO shaft running) and said did you hear that? He said I had a GREAT attitude!

    And ya know what?

    He smiled :)

He has busted my chops on a couple of things, never told me, good job, that was a hard/tight turn or whatever. But today he smiled. lol

I say not horrible company they promise things they do not intend on keeping especially home time. Which was the only reason my husband went with them because there pay sucks and other companies pay more but tell you home time is limited star says you will have home time and does not deliver then on top of that pays like #### and they charge you for DOT physical and everything else they can think of
