incorrect. Star Leasing Company is 100% owned by its employees through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
Star Transport (Morton, Ill) was founded in the 1940s by Glenn A. Werry, Sr. in Canton, Illinois as a freight and household carrier and an agent for North American Van Lines. The initial customer (which would become their major one) was the International Harvester plant in Canton. Through networking with the IH plant, the company began hauling farm equipment for other businesses in the agricultural field. After the IH plant closed, Glenn A. Werry, Jr. began focusing company efforts on other transportation needs. One change made in the 1980s to phase out the company's flatbed trailers in favor of dry vans led to the headquarters moving to Morton, which would form the foundation of what would become a long relationship with Caterpillar and Maytag.
Star Transportation was purchased many years back by Covenant Transport of Chattanooga, TN.

I've noticed they have quite a few 386's on the lot with all the decals taken off as of the last couple weeks also.
-
So is Star looking to become the next Arrow trucking?
-
if so, at least they are giving somewhat of a notice.

Im confused here. I got an info packet and an invitation to attend orientation just last week, Dec 11 to be exact. Tina Mason emailed it to me after I spoke with her on the phone. Why would I be scheduled to be at orientation on January 7, 2013 if they're going under. She told me they were getting 200 new trucks in January, I thought they were doing good. Boy am I glad I saw this thread.

Here's a tid bit. Couple of months back, Star raised it's starting or standard cpm from .28 to .36 . We all got letters in the mail that stated the new rate was dependant on good fuel mileage and on time loads. This could have been part of the master plan. They let everyone enjoy it and get used to it for a couple of months. Now with the elimination of the training program, and the constant quallcom messages about fuel mileage, they are trigger happy about taking a nickel per mile off your check. Thought my check was a little light last week. When I looked this week sure enough they had taken a nickel off my cpm. That's $100 per check with 2000 miles. When I called them and asked why they didn't inform me, they said they had already given drivers notice with the mail they sent out 2 months ago. I have been late on a load here and there. However, the date they gave me for the infraction, was late and the appointment was changed due to no fault of my own. So, I did deserve the cut, but not for the one they gave it for. Anyway, the "demotion in pay" is supposed to last for a month if you have no more infractions. When I made the decision to turn in my notice, I was unaware that my pay had been cut. Knowing now, well, that just makes me feel even better about the decision I made to leave them. There's alot of stuff changing there and it's changing fast. Looking forward to the new year and my new job.
