2nd hand info so take it as worth what you paid for it...I regularly talk to Star driver that runs through where I live on his dedicated account that Star has lost and he will be running through there no more.

But...as of the last time we spoke...(2 weeks ago)

Star is doing the same ole thing that Werner and Swift and Schneider and...well you get the picture.

They are getting rid of higher paid senior drivers in favor of lower paid new guys. That is not a sign of a good company to work for. There are strict MPG requirements but no bonus for meeting those requirements. They are too eager to fire you instead of trying to help you make a living while making them some money too.

And that comes from a driver that is still in their "good graces"...not some guy with a grudge because he was let go.

well i can add a few things about star transport. i worked for them for 15.5 years. now for a new driver out of school they are not a bad company to work for. they do have their bad points too. like all the other companies they will tell you what you want to hear. now as for the training program, well, it could be better. main reason is when the trainee is in the truck with the trainer for 2 weeks they become a team. some of the trainers well start right from the start doing team driving. one bad point is they have allowed drivers with only 6 months experience to train. now there are a few good trainers though. the equipment is good.peterbilts 387s and the new 386s. they have cat engines, and 13 speed trans with 3 stage jakes, and a 70" condo sleeper on the 387 and the 386 has a mid roof sleeper. the truck are not bad, but with them cut back, they do struggle going up hills. but they do get good mileage.
i would be sure to get things in writing though. and be sure to understand the rules they put out. they have been known to change the rules they have without telling anyone until it is too late.
they did size down to about 675 trucks from 975 about the end of last year.
but to start out they are a good place to start.

If you are an experienced driver, look elsewhere. If you just got or need a CDL, Star will be good for that.

Ive been w Star Transport now for nearly 3 yrs. As with any trucking company, theres good and bad things about them. If youre looking 4 a company 2 get started with out of trucking school and get your 1st yr of experience, then, I guess its good. The pay compared to other major companies is a joke though. U start at .28/mile. Im just now at .30/mile with nearly 3 yrs exp., so needless to say im looking for a new company. As far as the company itself, they treated me great! well they did until this past yr. Over the last yr theyve cracked down on drivers with junk like idle time. Recently this past winter... theyve started making us freeze to death. Another problem... Weve always been only able to fuel at Pilots, but, theyve started getting strict even on that. Now we have to fuel at the EXACT pilot location the qcomm says, which has been leading dispatch to run us out of fuel, and when we do, cuz of the fuel stop they chose, we get chewed out FOR IT

Guys, Star isnt all bad. Mostly bad yes, but im still with them, and, dispatch treats me great. Although... the companies gone downhill big time, and, since theyve tightened things up, theyve started treating us like a num er instead of a human. When u first finish trucking school, Stars a wonderful place to get some experience in. If you dont get least one year experience, no reputable company's going to hire you. As far as their trucks go, yes theyre decent, but shops another thing. if anything on the body is damaged, they practically duct tape it together. The trucks are fine till shop touchs them. Also, if you have a breakdown on the road and call shop, theyre NEVER friendly. I was cussed out and yelled at last time I called. Anyways im currently looking for a better company. Im only getting .30/mi., and theyre on per diem. Ive already gotten several offers for .38 and even one for .50/mi., so im not gonna b here much longer. Regardless, bottom line is this... If youre fresh out of school, theyre WONDERFUL... If youve already got a year exp., then... LOOK ELSEWHERE!!!

Agreed, Star was good for one year experience, but no more. That fuel program they have is a joke and my dispatcher was an #$$&*(%. Everyone else one nice and they didn't screw my DAC with lies when I left. They are what they are......A very small company in financial trouble.
