As a rule they pay for lumpers, via comcheck. I've driven for them for 2 years and in that time have only had 3 trips that were "driver unloads". These all involved furniture and only required that I slide the stuff to the back of the trailer so the consignee could take it off.
That being said, in those 2 years I've never refused a legal dispatch and still only averaged 1850 miles/week. Things have gone way downhill since the Covenant buyout and I could not in good conscience recommend going to drive for them except as a last resort.
