Stay away from Star. No miles, no money, and no home time. Have you ever spoke to any of their drivers? Some can barely speak english let alone understand what they are saying. And still haven't seen a single driver that can back up. Come on going out of business would be safest thing for the general public Star can do. I guess time will tell what happens to them. If you have any experience and a mediocre driving record you can do better than Star.

I knew you guys where reading these forums. I am not a Star Employee, nor have I been one. I want to repeat what I have said in the past. I made comments on others' threads. I don't want to trash Star or any other compan y. If my friends have told me something about Star that was false, then why are others commenting on it. Why would a company feel the need to post as drivers to defend their company, if they are worried about the company. If a Company ran a class act then they shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I have been in contact w/ my Father in Law who happens to drive for Star. He has always told me that the miles he got always fluctuated depending on his locations and the economy. This is true no matter where you go or who you drive for. If you are in a bad freight area, or the shippers and recievers are having a bad fiscal quarter, then freight will be hard to come by. Right now though he is getting all the freight he can handle.

Star did not just go and lay off drivers at the drop of a hat. They did the best they could but in the end they had to get rid of some drivers. Most of the drivers they got rid of, not all but most, were drivers that had accidents, wether big or small; had a habit of being late; or had general bad attitudes and complaints from the shippers and recievers.

My Father in Law always kept his nose and driving record clean, got along well with everyone, and was always early for pick-ups and deliveries, wether by an hour, or a day. When he was early he would call the cust to try and load or unload early, then list as ready asap. He did not lounge or play around. He was there to work. As a result, when the lay-offs occured, he was not on the chopping block.

Funny thing as I read a lot of these forums. A lot of drivers for various companies complain that their company is hiring so many drivers, taking freight away from the drivers that they already have; but when a company fianlly recognizes this flaw in their business plans and corrects it, the drivers start giving them flack about it. I also notice that the a lot of drivers who have been complaining the most, a lot of drivers but not all, are ones who have been fired for reasons I am sure they make seem like the companies fault and not theirs, or drivers who have never drove for that company and are going only on heresay.

Star is not a bad company to work for, especially for starting drivers. As with all companies though, you will get the crap runs, and crappy miles until you prove your driving skills and work ethics. Once you do, you will be doing well wether you stay with Star or go onto a new company.

BY the way, my Father in Law does speak english. As a matter of fact he speaks proper english as he is from England.

well i guess i should give some insite on star transport. i worked for them for 15.5 years. i can give first hand on what has gone on. the economy being as it is, has caused problems. also there were a few people that tried stealing from there. this has happened before. but they always come out on the good end. now at this time they have layed off about 300 drivers and sized the fleet down to about 675.
yes they have got a few problems but are working trough them. they have lost a few accounts, but everyone has lost a few. but they have also gained a few too.
their insurance is good. i should know. in '01 i had a motorcycle wreck, and their insurance payed for about 95% of my bills. and they were large bills. and they kept me listed as an employee on medical leave, and when i got certified by the dot, they allowed me back with out any reduction of pay. i kept my senoirity and pay rate.
now the bad part, they change their rules at a moments notice to satisfy their needs. they do not tell employees when a change has happened.
also when a driver has been there for so long, and if they have a screw up, then they are out the door. even though there have been some that have screwed up multiple times and are still there. then they tell the employee that after a period of time they can reapply and then when the driver does, they say no go.
but for a driver that is starting out, they are a company where a newbe can get a start.
they were in the top 5 of medium sized trucking companies. i thought someone said at one time in the last 2 years they were #2. this was i think in a forbes type of listing.
right now every company is having a hard time with getting miles to their drivers. but for someone starting out, star is somewhere to start from.

I'm starting with them on the 14th. I got downsized from TMC in march and am happy to be driving again. I'll let you know....EVERYONE IS HAVING PROBLEMS RIGHT NOW. Be happy you are working and work your 2 years so you can get with a better company if you don't like (insert trucking company here). I'm going with star because eveeryone else who took students now wants at least 6 months OTR. So I could care less about miles or pay. Eventually I'll have my 2 years and can go with someone else. Till then..........I'll do what I have to do.

Star Transport is still alive and kicking and have gained some new national accounts. Miles and Load count have went up in this quarter. While alot of people post negative things and false statements. This proves them wrong. This economy is still a challenge things are looking up. Hopefully 2010 will be a better year for the industry and economy in general.
