Good luck. And can you tell me how its going there. Thankx and be safe.

I am also very interested in Star Transportation. I was told by the recruiter I would be getting 2300-2500 miles per week and be home most weekends. I am considering going with them, but I am wondering how things are now with covenant taking over. Are they cutting back on the miles? Also, do they have good benefits? How is their training and orientation? Thanks.

Four to six weeks is more than adequate to get the basics down. It's not rocket science. You have some simple paperwork to learn and common sense/courtesy things to learn about driving and dealing with customers. That 12 cents a mile for 6 months is gonna get old real fast.

The .12 per mile is only while your in training which should only be 4 weeks or so. It is going to suck right now though cause I think that they are only getting about 1800 miles a week right now. O'well got to do my time somewhere. My dad still isn't out with a trainer. They are having some problems with trainers and orientation right now from what I hear. Guess I will find out in a week.

So is star a good starter company ??? ( star transportation )

They used to be.

Well its hard to say. Right now its kinda rough. Freight is slow and we aren't running much. I have been hired since DEC 3rd and I am going out monday for the first time. It looks like its picking up though. I will be on a dedicated run with my trainer which is good and bad. I won't learn as much but its a guaranteed 2,500 miles a week. I don't think they are a bad company and all the people are really nice but Covenant is getting their hands more and more into them so I don't know what will happen. I am just hoping to get my time in and then start looking for something else. i am going to really try to get on with McKee foods, but that is difficult cause its a great job if you don't mind unloading.

Good luck with it.....
I had actually talked to Adam # Star (TN) today and he was telling me that they ran basically a triangle from Houston to GA to NJ, but no NYC. He also said that from time to time they make it up to CT and Mass, but few and far between.
I sure would be interested in hearing your experiences as you get going. Not sure if everything I was told is 100% accurate, but hearing your tales would definately be welcome. I am starting my CDL on Monday and hope to be sharing the roads with ya'll come the beginning of February, which is when Adam said they would be looking to bring in some newbies.
Thanks for your posts and I hope to hear more from you in the coming days! -
They have been strait with me. Once you get ready to come over freight should be picking up. Also about the time I should be getting my own truck. I'll keep ya posted as it goes.
ScooterDawg Thanks this.
