i am honored you quoted me And yes indeed they need to know the risks of what they are looking at Thank you for quoting me The truth does need to be exposed Especially to the new guys and gals starting in this industry There is so much to cover to help them out but so little time to cover everything Especially since i post on my 10 hour break lol Anyways young drivers heres some red flags to watch for Especially with stevens 1. promise of more than 1 week a month home time (on avarage most truck companys give you 1 day for every week out if your lucky you will find one who gives 2 a week) (this doesnt mean they will have you at home once a week for 2 days) (this means for every week your out you aquire this time for home time Be cautious of home time it can cost you more than you want it to you do not get paid for home time and the companies can force you to turn in truck if home more than 4 days on avarage) 2. Pay This is a tricky one Companys word their pay scale very carfuly Stevens is VERY guilty of this and in all reality they are one of the lowest paying freight companies in the industry Watch the words "up too" if you can find a company who pays revinue to the truck thats where the money is 3. DONT LEASE no matter how good it sounds if your new you will loose your rear leasing Stevens tries to force leasing If you feel the need to lease go with some one like Prime inc where there is no cost to break the lease Stevens charges 2500.00 to break lease contract 4. Watch out for a company who tells you about training when you first come to orientation and you havent worked for a truck company before This should send off all sorts of alarms Dont train It will put an added stress on you you dont need when first begining Besides how can you train something you dont know yet 5. Training (this is yet an other grey area Stevens is in a rush to get you out there and making them money but the training is almost a joke if you dont believe me go to a truck stop and sit there for a while any trucks in the 5000 to 6400 series are trainees just watch them Training consist of 1 week in class during day / out on course at night 5 weeks with a suposed experienced trainer ( I got lucky I had a true vet of trucking) 3 weeks with an other trainee ( This is SCARY VERY SCARY) I had Bad Bad Bad Experience there Then after that your routed back to yard and you have about a week of doting the i's and crossing the t's Then your on your own Grad fleet This is a nightmare they give you crap runs and test you to see what your going to put up with and you are only getting .24 cpm let me tell you about the .24 cpm it is more like .12 cpm by the time the finish raping your paycheck with supposed cash advances and reembursments???? .......Dont hold your breath it doesnt happen its against their religion to be honest and pay you for what you spent for their company your a trainee your at bottem ot pecking order now your grad fleet for 3 months then you go to regular fleet This is when you get a real DM hope it isnt the one i had or you will not make any money at all anyways you get my point on training .6 Equipment They look too good to be true ? they probably are you will not see the equipment that recruters show up in till your with company for quite a while .7 Companies who have their drivers show up with their trucks 3 times a week if your in a private cdl training school This is a sad tatic they use because they are eather cheap or cant get normal drivers to apply .8 Ask about termanels This is IMPORTANT VERY IMPORTANT Go with a company who is in your state why? because if something should god forbid happen and you cant work for that company anymore you will have to turn in the truck to save your d.a.c record and when you quit a company they are not required to bus you home and most wont so work for some one close to home or who has a drop term close to home I guess this is all i can say for now I will start a new thread soon to help new members of trucking |

| I don't blame them for charging you for the accident. You trying to tell me that you are unable to realize that things can (and will) slide on ice??? What kind of a truck driver are you? The kind who doesn't think? |
