Ahh thanks...so now know what to look forward to....am thinking might not have to prove myself all that much seeing as how I did over 500k miles in 5yrs with CRE. As far as hometime, well as long as I can get home for few days every 4 weeks or so will be happy.

    forgot you have experience. duh....
DM's do change alot, and getting them trained to get you home can be a pain. Also depends on where you live.

put in for home time every 4 weeks and plan on after the home time you requested.

When I was running general OTR, I never had trouble getting home when I needed and usually close to when I wanted.
I think it largely depends on your DM.
I've had the same DM for more than two years and we think on parallel planes so there isn't usually a surprise.
There is an adjustment period, just like dating.
When he first became my DM, he told me: "All I ask is you communicate. Don't let me down. Even if it isn't pretty, just tell me the truth.
I'll do the same for you."
Most of the screwups in my times with Stevens have been due to weekend crews, shippers, receivers or just plain bad luck.
(snow storms in June are not usually planned for!)
Some DMs have a problem with telling you the truth, so there isn't a good trust relationship.
We put up with a lot out here...missed holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. not to mention shippers/receivers, traffic, etc, etc, etc.
I think the least we can ask for and expect...and it's a two way street, is honesty and open communication.
Fortunately, I have that with my DM.

Thank you guys I had to deal with similar experiences with CRE. My first DM there was awesome when I wanted hometime he got me home within a day or two of the time requested even if itmeant swapping loads going my way.He quit to go back to college and I ended up with 2 more DMs who thought I was their little monkey and they treated me like crap. So I fired them both and my last DM, I had him for 2yrs and he was both honest and a good DM.

As for where I live, I just moved from the Phoenix area up to No Arizona bout 4.5hrs north of Phoenix. I had figured to leave the truck where they ok and renting a car fro 3 or 4 days to drive up here. I live on a truck rte here where I see trucks running thru town everyday. There are places to park behind the hotel or Mickey Ds or BK. they do all the time. In fact I live in a small town of 5500 people and a couple of the people here drive for CRE.
