My Husband was a long distance truck driver when I first met him. We had many a wonderful trips, California, Florida, Georgia. We even got married in Nevada on one of our trips. When in Truck Stops we saw many different drivers, both good and bad looking and I can not tell you how many times a Driver has tried to pick me up while I have been waiting for my Husband.
In May of this year my Husband gave up the long haul to take a job closer to home. He was still on the road 6 out of 7 days but he was only at most 600 miles away from home and could stop at night for a visit.
The week of June 19th 2006 started off as any other week. Monday night I drove him to his truck and said goodbye. Tuesday night he stopped to exchange clean for dirty clothes and Wednesday night he stopped to say HI, I Love You and drop off some produce he had purchased in Montreal. Little did I know that would be the last time I ever say my Husband. Later Wednesday night he called to let me know he was stopping at the 10 Acre Truck Stop for the night for some sleep before heading to Toronto for his early morning delivery. At 11:33 we said our I love you's and hung up the phone, that was the last I got to hear my Husbands voice. The next morning his company called asking if I had heard from him as he was not answering his phone and did not make his delivery time (which was not like him at all). I started calling people I knew he spoke with on a daily basis and kept contact with the company he was deliverying to. by 3:30 in the afternoon I filed a Missing Persons report and begain calling Local Trucking Companies I knew had drivers on the same route. The companies were great and got the description of My Husband and his truck out to their drives. That night I went looking for my Husband myself. Stopping at all the truck stops between our home and were he had stopped that night. During my search I talked to many a drivers, some were wonderful and got ont he CB right away trying to help, others could not care less that one of their own was missing. At the Truck Stop were my Husband and I last spoke I talked to and showed my Husbands picture to all the drivers I saw, no one had seen him or his truck. How does a White Tractor Trailer just vanish in to thin air? I was made to turn around and drive the 3 hours back home with no answers.
The next day I received a call that my Husbands Truck had been found 2 hours away from were he had stopped 2 days earlier. My Husband had been shot and murdered and the load of chicken he was hauling was gone. I had drivers offer their time to help me and my son at home with such things as garbage being taken to the dump, Drivers were putting up flyers all over Canada and some even down into the US. Drivers were coming together to help me find out who and why this happend to one of their own. The Big Rig Truck Show in Lansdown, Ontario was dedicated to the memory of my Husband and raised over 2500.00 to help my family (we had no live insurance). A trust fund was set up and most of the donations were from "A Fellow Trucker" and totaled over $5,000.00. Drivers had come together to help out my family because one of their own had been Murdered. The police were receiving tips from Drivers every day. The Detectives told me that out of all the murder cases he had investigated he was getting the most help on this one because the Drivers were all being cooperative and doing their best to answer questions.
The middle of last month I got the call that they had made an arrest. To my horror the man they arrested was a fellow driver. I was then told that I would be a witness during the trial, why? Because of the people I saw and talked to the night I went looking for my Husband. This means that I was face to face with the man that murdered my husband, I more than likely stood beside his truck, and was lied to. I have been told I am lucky to have been allowed to leave the truck stop that night alive.
This is my story - the good and the bad of it. Knowing that another driver is responsible for the murder of my husband does not make me wary of all drivers, I know that one bad apple does not spoil the whole bunch. But the public is not going to be looking at the good the trucking industry has done for me and my family, they are going to focus on the fact that a Truck Driver Murdered another Truck Driver and this is going to be one big black mark for Drivers in Canada.
Any and all stories that can get out there that show the public the good side of drivers is extremly important. We need to let them know that Drivers are good men and women, they are out there doing their job to support their families. They sacrifice everyday and have one of the toughest jobs there is.

That fellow who did this is in no way to be considered another "driver"
If he is considered a driver then I am ashamed to call myself one!!!
He is a low life piece of dirt though!

Yes you are right, and a "low life piece of dirt" just seems to be to good for this guy.

The point I was trying to make was that not all drivers are bad guys like this one. I have had more help from fellow drivers and their families than any other member of my community or neighbours.

yes i would have to agree this man is not human he is not to be considerd a trucker not from what my brother usedto tell me as truckers watch out for one another always and we were close i am now trying to help his family as best as i know how as he would want me to i miss him and can't wait until justice is serverd there is alot more to this case .i can not wait to hear all about in court but no mater what the answers are in this case its is senseless murder plain an simple no way shape or form is there a reason to killl .especialy a man that was just doing his job .well he will be missed an never forgotten lets all pray that justice is serverd and this never happens again to anyone else as his sisiter i feel helpless and very much alone not having my brother which was my brother , bestfriend and rock i was the oldest but he was my protector an i was his as brother an sister we were alwasy there for one another i just feel so bad thisis one time i could not help him as i was always there for my brother an even in his absent s i will contuine to be ....Ps remember sister in law (nicole)he is watching overyou as always keep the faith an to the other truckers please be careful and safe always ...sincerely KImberly ps and thanks again kcorey for yr help with everything when i came to you for help to post this story your a real gem........

My heart fell to the floor when I read this.
I work at a truck stop and I have met so many drivers, some have been
my best friends thru thick and thin,Husbands and wives.I,m always keeping track of whats going on out side. and around the building.
trying to make sure people are safe.
Please know that we do care about truckers and their familys.
and know that if you need anything. we are always willing to help or know
people who can help.may god keep you and yours safe and in his arms.
