I took a job as a car hauler 2 months ago, and it is truely challenging.

Friday morning, I was hauling up to town, dropped off 4 cars, and had to pick up 3 on my was through and drop them on the way to drop my 4 other cars....

Well I drive a cab over car hauler, and had my head rack car raised about 2 feet over down, so the car was probably 15 feet at the trunk wich was higher than the front.

I loaded under the top, which is normal, and lowered the decks back down, forgeting the headrack, I even hight checked the otther decks, but some how missed the headrack...

I got on the expressway, and .0000001 before i went under my first bridge, I knew i #$#R@%ed up, .0000001 later I hear a bang and know I really an screwed. I pull over hoping that the convertable on the headrack had the roof blow up by chance and it wasnt my fault, BUT, I had left the deck up, and took out the top, and trunk, luckley it was a convertible as a roofed car would have been totaled.

Called the boss, did not beat around the bush, and I had to go unload the car access the damage and get the car to the collision shop to fix so the dealer could get the car.

Bad week for us, 3 of the 5 trucks are messed up, had another bridged car this week from another driver....

This job is fun, but time consuming, I find myself pushing due to other drivers being sick or off and the work still there, I am not being pushed, but I am pushing myself, as I am a pusher, I am not pushing myself to make $$$< I am pushing myself cause I know there is work to be done, and I need to get it done in my head....

after my 15months otr, I was upto 240lbs, after 2 months of car hauling I am down to 215 with 20 lbs left to lose, it is a great job, and it never ceases to be challenging, and PAYS AWESOME, I have brought home $1000 or more EVERY week.

Two brothers that were yard jockeys with me went to hauling cars. One had a mishap with an Expedition. He didnt crank the car down enough and an overhead beam ended up crunching the roof. He was responsible and paid for it...about $500 I believe. He makes enough money to be able to recover from that in 1/2 week.

I can just imagine the sick feeling I would have had in my stomach when I heard that noise.

I've always wanted to get into car hauling, but the right people aren't around here. I've heard there is tons of money in it.

We have a company that delivers to dealerships locally here, and they actively recruited me when I was working as an assistant service manager at one of the dealerships.

Union job, they said 60K+ to start. At the time, I was making better at the dealership. Even after that, I thought about it, but I am not real fond of heights and don't really care too much about the idea of climbing around on that rig and backing cars down wet ramps.

I have watched these guys slide off the side of these trailers and total cars, that basically convinced me to avoid it.

This is the reason, I believe, my s/o doesn't get home as much as we think he should. That sounds just like him. Do they call that taking your work home with you, or since you're a driver, it's taking your home to work with you. ?

Unless that dent was very slight and the shop was able to do a paintless dent removal you probably need to add another 0 to that figure. That is way too cheap from what I know.

I guess I should have clarified. Yes, it was a minor dent, but none the less, it was a mishap with a brand new car. BTW, he was less than 1 month on the job at the time.

The hardest part of car hauling are the first few months. Once you find the tie down holes and invest in a good height stick, let the good times roll and the fat pay checks follow.

Once I had the upper deck put a crease in the roof of a cherry F150. The dealer was NOT very happy. It had a a lift kit on it, and I had pulled a lot of the lift out of it tying down. I didn't think and let the chains loose before lifting the upper deck.

I did 9 months of car hauling when I first started driving. Now almost 5 yrs later I've come full circle and am starting a new job monday hauling cars again.
