I want to cross the Border

When crossing with commercial cargo, the load has to be accepted before showing up.
If it's not, they likely will turn you around. And possibly fine you.

My custom broker's (Livingston) computer system has crashed yesterday and I can't cross the border.

Paperwork was faxed at 1130AM and then again at 230PM yesterday.
At 330PM, I was sitting 4.7 kilometers from the border and unable to cross.
At 730PM, they acknowledge receiving my paperwork but still not able to cross.
At 9PM, still not done and I gave up. Decided to throw all this time in my 10 hours and get up at 1AM.
At 1AM today, still not done and the guy on their end asks me for my cell number so somebody working on my load can call me.
At 140AM, I get a call and it's not good.
Apparently, there is information missing and they can not clear me.
Thank you for telling me at ##$%ing 2AM.
That's something I would have liked to know 12 hours ago.
Now it's 910AM and I'm still 4.7 kilometers from the border.

17 hours 40 minutes and counting.

If it has b00bs, wheels or a computer chip, it will cause you problems.

That realy sucks man. Seems like all the traffic that constantly goes across border, they would have a decent system in place.

There is a good system. When it works.
When everything goes the way its supposed to go, the only delay is traffic.
Usually, it's something like 10-15 minutes to get off the bridge and get to the booth. Then I would say, on average, I spend 2 minutes at the booth.

But when it doesn't go the way it's should, it's now a big problem.

And in this case, the broker's problem cost me 12 hours before I knew I had a bigger problem. Then another 7 hours before we can start to fix it.

And, I haven't moved yet, I'm still in the same parking spot as yesterday afternoon.

I can cross at noon.

The system in place is great when it works but when it fails you're in $h!t up to your neck.

Whether my paperwork is ready or not I go to the border . Customs lets me park in the lot and go into Livingston's office to harass them . That way I get the paperwork as soon as the problem is resolved and don't worry about them getting around to calling me when they feel like it . I cross at Sarnia and they have a decent place to get something to eat there .
But that's crossing into Canada .
Coming into the States is a different story but I always come back empty .

He probably was . I wonder how many other trucks were affected ? I bet there's a huge backup at the border for hours now .
Surprisingly , minimum delays . [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

Don't try that going into Windsor, they'll probably turn you around.

About 15 minutes delay and I was at the booth for about 1.5 minutes.
It had to affect a lot of drivers everywhere, Livingston is one of the biggest broker.
But it didn't affect the border itself too bad because you have to be cleared before showing up so traffic at Customs was still moving.
Where you could see the effects, was at the truck stop.
A lot of trucks stayed parked a long time.

And I was supposed to deliver at 6 this morning in Columbus, OH but now I can't deliver until tomorrow 8AM. So it means it's costing me an additional 12 hours.
