Thats been the standard until recently. Superior Carriers has less than 30% driver turnover every year. A high percentage of the work force is over 50 and retiring soon. Its only been about 6 months that they have taken students. Great thing is after extended training (I am in my 8th week) you make the same pay rate as everyone else. .41 loaded, .34 empty plus all the hourly pay. Tanker drivers are paid for everything they do. If it takes 9 hours to unload you make $16.00/ hour after 2 hours in addition to the unload flat fee.

We haul chemicals. Out of High Point most aren't hazmat. Out of Kingsport most seem to be. Out in the system its about 25% placard loads.

Thursday 1/31, Friday 1/1

Well I finished up another week. Nothing much happened the last few days. We loaded 5 or 6 more tanks at Eastman to spot on the yard for other drivers to pull. The longest one was into Ontario Canada. Paperwork is a bit different on that one as the border crossing folks will only take the original bill of lading. It has a raised bar code on it. Great week over all and I made a few new friends in the Kingsport terminal. Good bunch of folks up there. Next week is all classroom stuff as I go to the orientation and Hazmat classes. Only bad thing is I have a choice of either driving up late Sun night or missing the super bowl. Going to check the weather report before I decide. Class starts at 8:00 AM sharp and they will lock the doors and fire you if you are late.

Yeah I am sitting third from the front on the left as you walk in the room. The class is about as good as can be expected. You should have seen the CDL school I went to. At least these instructors have a sense of humor and aren't 70 years old. Tomorrow will be extra boring for me since I basically sat through this part of the class 2 weeks ago.

Just got home after a long week of classroom stuff. I passed. Made a 96 on the final.

It was nice to meet you Island57 and Moneycat. Good luck to both of you. I miss driving a truck. Found out next week starts at 5:00 AM Monday. Hopefully I will get approved after this week and get a solo dispatch.

Hope they don't keep you waiting much longer for your solo. Are you feeling ready to be set free? I know I'll be thrilled to finally have some affordable insurance at last!! COBRA is as deadly as its' name implies, the cost is killing me. Keep me posted on how it's going for you. I start week 2 on Monday..........I have a long way to go!!
