Had a pretty uneventful drive back. Left around 4:15 AM. Stopped at the Blue Beacon and got my truck washed and arrived at the yard around 10:30. Off by 11:00 AM. I am getting in a reset today and tomorrow.

I am preplanned on a dedicated load where I take an empty 200 miles North up to Hopewell Va, load it and run it down to Houston TX to deliver Sunday at 13:00. I then bring the empty back to High Point. If everything goes well I should be home Tuesday. Its around 2500 miles total 1500 of which is loaded.

I have done this load twice before. The first time I didn't get a restart in before heading out on it and wound up running out of hours on the way back. I spent a couple of nights in the company hotel in Mobile Ala. The second time the product was so thick I wound up steaming it 24 hours at our Pasadena Tx terminal before they could unload it. I am due an incident free run on this one.

Glad to see things are steady down South. Things up North are so-so. Lots of Canada. Apparently, a lot of drivers forgot to get passports/passport cards/or/FAST. Keep on Truckin.

Glad to hear they are keeping you busy. I can't complain.

This run is going well. I got loaded no problem Friday and made it as far south as Spartanburg even though I had to make a pit stop to the High Point Yard after loading to get a couple of trailer tires. When I hooked to my trailer one of our OO's was having a problem with a paint load and was sleeping in his truck at the terminal. He had backed in so close to my trailer that I had to wake him up before hooking to it so as not to bump mirrors with him. I didn't check the tires on that side as good as I should.

Sure enough after loading I noticed a couple of flat spots on that side that needed to be replaced. Too many drivers in this company do lousy pretrips. This tire had been bad for a while. There was no tread at all in the flat spot. Got 2 new ones and ran pretty close to 11/10 Friday and Saturday.

I got to the customer 2 hours early and they took me right into the rack. A HT driver had a 13:00 apointment but he was late and had to wait for me. He ended up being around 1.5 hours late. It took 3 hours to get empty and I made it far enough east to get home Tuesday. Hopefully they will hook me up with another Holland or N Chicago to finish the week.

    Mid Year 2009

Last Fridays Check 6/26/09 marks the midyear point.

I did a little tax preparation work with my logbook while getting unloaded today and figured I would share it here.

    2009 YTD Totals

    1. Total Hub miles the truck has run 47,077
    2. Gross Pay/Total Hub Miles .528 CPM
    3. Days Worked 133
    4. Days OFF 49
    5. Paid Sleeper Berths 76 Hotel nights 6 82 total
    6. Days worked from Home 51

    1. I took the odometer reading from 6/21 and subtracted the one from 1/1. These are actual miles run and are more than paid miles

    2. Since so much of my check is hourly pay in addition to mileage I wanted to calculate that money in relation to miles driven

    3. Actual # of days where I logged lines 3 or 4

    4. Days where I logged line 1 for 24 hours. This includes 1 week paid vacation

    5. Days spent out on the road.

    6. These are the days where I logged line 3 or 4. But went home at night. Some are long days of local work. Some are pretty much days off. I slept in my own bed at home for all of them.

Call the terminal manager or since you are in town call for an appointment then go down to the yard in person. If I were in your shoes I would ask for an appointment with the TM to learn about the Tanker industry in general. Emphasize your 21 years experience . That gets you a meeting with him even if they don't have any openings. Hiring is done at theTerminal level with approval from corporate. Eventually you will do the online application but I would call first. I have been to Garden City a couple of times. The people down there are real nice.

Had a couple of relaxing days driving. Got home around 4:00 PM this afternoon. I did have a little excitement when the scale at the Ga SC line pulled me around back for a "level 2 Hazmat check"

The officer did a walk around, checked my logs and paperwork. All he could find wrong was a placard on the back that wasn't perfectly vertical and 2 on the sides that were supposedly obscured by the placard holder. I fixed them with my seal cutters but he still wrote it up. These are permanent placards since this is a dedicated trailer that only hauls this product and gets top loaded every time.

No tickets for me. Terminal manager wasn't too happy about it. Our safestat score has been rising of late and the only thing that can bring it down is clean DOT inspections. Apparently this hurts us. I am real glad I got those tires changed out last Friday.

    1. is the Placard holder I repaired or broke however you want to look at it

2 is the non vertical placard

I have been enjoying some home time working my part time swim coaching job. This is a good time of year for it as all the summer pools are open and summer league teams are in full gear. I helped my old team do a clinic at one of the local pools and did some underwater videotaping with them at practice. I am about to launch a part time business doing private stroke instruction for $50 a half hour and this gives me some up to date contacts. I had parents videotaping me as I critiqued the summer league group on a small TV so I know its viable. I can make some pretty good change on a 34 hour restart. This was always a conflict of interest when I was the head coach of the team but not anymore.

I got called into the terminal at the last minute yesterday to pick up my load for the weekend. Its another Holland Mi dedicated paint load. I did the trailer swap and drug my load back to the yard where its waiting for me to pull out on Sunday.

    Everyone have a happy 4th.

This load had a 2:00 AM Tuesday delivery time so I ran it a little different. I left about 15:00 Sunday planning to get to Holland by 16:00 Monday so I could get a full 10 hour break in right before delivery.

I stopped in Jeffersonville OH Sunday and found a nail in one of my trailer tires. Took my break and pulled it through the TA and let them pull it out. It wasn't too long ant the tire didn't leak air so I figured my plan was still intact.

Got to Holland by 3:30 PM, watched a movie and went to bed around 10:00. I was up at 1:45, scaled, drove 3 miles to the plant, backed under the rack and was back in the sack by 2:30. I was hoping they would take about 3 hours to unload me and I would have a full 10-11 hours left to drive.

I woke up to full sunlight around 7:30. They finally finished around 9:00 leaving me just enough time on my 14 to get back to Jeffersonville. I will get an early start and still make it back mid morning Wednesday. I like running this load this way and even got about a 3 mile walk in around the outlet mall here.

Still running pretty hard. I got up around 4:00 AM figuring that I would have the rest of the day off once I got my empty back to the terminal. I arrived around 11:00 and found out they wanted me to do a little local work and pick up my empty trailer for my next load.

They had me deliver another drivers load to P&G so he could get a break in and head out on another load. It was hooked to my old truck and boy what a difference driving that was. Finally finished up around 3:00 PM.

They had me set up on another N Chicago dedicated load. Loading time was 06:00 today in N Chicago so it was s straight 04:00 starts. I will be home Saturday for a restart since this load delivers Monday at 06:00. I will then get the rest of Monday off and head out on a Plaquemine dedicated load Tuesday morning. That load delivers Friday morning so I may get a long weekend at home next week.
