I went thru Gainey orientation early Oct 2008 # Conley, Ga terminal. I hadnt heard of Chapt 11 filing until I got to orientaion but I shoulda been suspicious when they gave me a bus ticket after only 1 phone convo.
At the motel you share a room (or pay $22 for a room alone), every morning when you catch the van to orientation you MUST take all your luggage with you and store it in a unsecure room at terminal then take it back to motel, WTF???? Hope you like pizza cuz thats what u have for lunch EVERYDAY, you can get muffins, toast, coffee etc at motel for b'fast and dinner is on u. Usual orientation bs, road test/physical were jokes, 5 mins w/ dr for physical.
Nearly all of their equip (except newest trks), looks like #####, body damage is not repaired, inside of my trk isnt bad.
So I get my trk (2005 frtshkr, 300k mi) the 3rd day of orientation # 3pm, I opt 2 load immed, get a load to north Ohio, good start, oh yea, they dont pay or reinburse IN or OH Trnpks EVER!!
So I go to OH, CT, NY state, NC, SC and Tampa, FL during the wk, not bad huh? Wait, dig this...I get to Tampa @0430, 10/17 to deliver # Macys DC, supposed 2b drop/hook but they have no mts, so I drop my loaded trl and had 2 wait outside the security fence, I check now/then 4 a mt, none. No one told us they close the dc # midnite and not reopen til midnite Sun/Mon, so my loaded trlr is inside the fence and I'm outside w/out a tlr, WTF!!! They let in sit in Tampa until Monday @1700, I do get layover pay but that aint #####.
12 days after I get trk, I go home 2 get rest of my stuff.
So here I am in Tampa again and guess what, In deliverd here Friday, now Saturday afternoon and here I sit, I asked disp b4 I took load did they have a preplan 2 get me outa here, he of course lied and said yes then it mysterously cancelled load out.
I've been driving since 1989, and I am ez 2 please, just keep me rolling, I dont care where the load goes just keep me rolling, Gainey cant even do that, so here I sit idling 24hrs a-day # $3something a gallon. did 1 yr w/ Burlington Motor Carrieers to get some exp, did 16 yrs w/ Glenn McClendon Trucking, they went oob, did 7mos w/JB Hunt, had no other options, YES, THEY DO SUCK, 9mos with CFI, great co, but I screwed up and "resigned", hope 2 go back in a yr, and now Gainey, THEY ARE THE WORST!!!!

I live here in the greater grand rapids area and did my start with gainey, yes, they are bad. Harvey likes to talk a good game about taking care of his drivers, no he don't. Try using the open door policy to talk to him he claims to have, can't, his goons stop ya and you have to talk to them first, if they dont like what you have to say, your fired. as for tolls, ya, try getting reimbursed, its like pulling teeth. They sent out a message on the qc back in like july saying for the first time since 2005 they have earned the right to have a 0 safestat score, i got on line, 99 and i got pulled in by d.o.t not once, but twice in one week becuase of safestat score, the same week that message went out. as for them fixing trucks, if you call handing a monkey a wrench fixing a truck then ok, thats about what its like. I will never recomend this company to anyone, and alot of people that live here in the greater gr area, really hope to see this company go down, they have really put a bad image of gr companies period in alot of eyes. ok, enough said.

The both of you arent too far off. They do reimburse tolls if they are logged correctly and have your trk#, Ld#, and Dvr ID written on them. In my 5 months here, all but one toll reciept have been reimbursed and that was my own fault(toll clerk didnt put the correct $$ amount on the reciept and I didnt notice). I hopefully will be moving on to a better company in 7 months(if I last that long).
There are some positives about Gainey though.

Hell, when I was there, it took me 3wks of fighting all the time to get reimbursed for tolls, yet they would route me that way, and before they did routing, you had to ask, they always wanted to send you the longest way thru little towns galore. I just know that Im happy im no longer there, and My wife who worked there for awhile is also happy not to be there anymore, and she was a office person, not a driver.

Hey ya RECON, I might know you and your wife. I was with GTS for 14 years. I ran a dedicated for the last four years that I was there. They lost the account and I told 'em adios in '07. Actually, they treated me pretty good while I was there. I had a pretty good dispatcher that didn't take too much guff and she looked out for me pretty well. My lil' buddie, Miss Dean in Atlanta was a big help too.

    SOS!!
Not enough improvemnet in Gainey to even talk about! Most times if I get mt after noon, I wont reload til next a.m., yet they constantly complain about idle time! Getting poor mpg too, aver 4.6, told them truck doesnt run rite, been to conley, lexington and gr and dallas for repair, still dont have it rite. while in gr went in to meet my disp, he had a yah, hi-bye attitiude so frig him!! heard they thinking off docking drivers 3cpm if they dont get 7mpg. just loaded near milwaukee to n jersy, routing was i94 to ann arbor, mi, us 23s i280, us20 thru clyde oh, to norwalk, oh, us 250 to us 224, i 76, i-80, that adds 100 miles over pay miles. i sent in for fuel stops twice, once I got dexter, mi which i didnt do cuz I ran us30 across ind but then they insisted fuels top in monroe, mi. so I ran up there then back down to toldedo and us 20 etc. havent had any trouble w/ toll reinsburse as long as its NOT in or oh!! I'll be moving on asap:biggrin_25510:

You'd think that they'd understand that running the secondary roads and running thru all of the little towns with their numerous stop lights uses more fuel than running down the open road. I found out that when I was with GTS you'd have to stand your ground and do some ######## to get what was right. If you're a good driver, stand your ground. The old saying, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease", was definetly true while I was there. Seems like they would push you until they found how far they could. I just didn't want to go back OTR with them and start playing that game again. Staying on the bright side of a good dispatcher was a definite plus too.

When I parted ways with GTS in '07 I was making .48 cents per mile, .8 cents of that was a per diem. Not too bad for a non-union, over-the-road company driver.

Just curious about the circumstances around McClendon closing their doors. I see where you worked there 16 years. They had been around for many years and had a good reputation in the Alabama trucking community. Was Raymond McClendon running the business when they closed? Any idea what the owners are doing now?
