No APU's on Swift company trucks. An inverter won't replace an APU they are two different things. An inverter allows you to run 110 volt appliances on 12 volt current.
I cannot remember the radio on idleing but I think it's 30% of what you drive. If you drive ten hours you get 3 hours idle time, etc.boommm78 Thanks this. -
Correct on the APU and inverter. The only inverters allowed are the small inverters that plug into a power outlet. Anything that needs to be wired directly to the battery is not permitted except with a doctors prescription for a CPAP machine.
As far as idle, true they would prefer you didn't idle the truck much, but they also understand it is freakin hot out there. They understand the effects that heat has on the body, so they allow you to idle as necessary to stay comfortable and well rested. A well rested driver is a safe driver. I'm sure some drivers abuse that priviledge though. I've seen trucks idling when it's been pretty cool out.boommm78 Thanks this. -
There are CPAPS that run off of 12V. I know i have one that will run off of 12v or 110 from the wall..

My cpap ran off of a plug in inverter without any issues. I'll have to check into the cpaps that run on either 12 volt or 110. That's awesome.
Yes, some Swifties do abuse the idleing. I was at several terminals last summer and saw trucks idleing away as the drivers sat in the terminal watching TV. No sense in that at all.JustSonny Thanks this. -
hay guys thanks for all the info on apu's and idleing tru if you are inside a terminal whats the piont of running your truck if your not goning to be in it. i think thats a nobrainer, now what about cb radios do you have to provide your own or what and is there a limit on cb power.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
You have to provide your own CB. Easy to hook up in the truck. Antennas on the mirrors of most of them already. I don't know the power issue. That you'll have to get from someone else. I had a cheap OLD 40 channel and it worked great in my Volvo.

When i was in school swift came for a presentation and i asked the same question and the recruiter said they were a waste of money... But think of how much fuel ur wasting while idling

hay bigmiketnc thanks for in put that kind of what i thought, i'll get my own a wile back i had a conex 4300 turbo 200 or 300 watt out put and a steel whip 16ft that thing was bad XXXXX. hay by the way what kind of 12volt cooler would you recamend.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
I like the COLEMAN because they have more room but others may have a different opinion. Also the small 12 volt cooker that you find in truck stops for about $30 is GREAT for slow cooking in roasting bags. I'd put a couple chicken breasts and some liquid smoke in a roaster bag, and some veggies and butter, salt, pepper in another roasting bag and plug that sucker in about 4 hours from the end of my drive. When I backed into a hole at the truck stop or rest area my dinner was ready. Very good eating and saves a ton of money on the road.
