I have read where some say companies don't run backgrounds (other than the basic) until you actually show up. But in my husbands case I think they did the full check prior but because they were dealing with california it took forever to get the information back. So I think they start the background before you show up, now when it gets completed is anyones guess.

Best advice I can give you is, "If there's ANYTHING AT ALL that could come back to haunt you, even if the recruiter assures you that every thing is hunky dorry, get that thing, or things, cleaned up BEFORE going to orientation. Too many academy students and orientatees are getting ugly surprises days and even weeks into the process. That is, days and weeks after beginning school or orientation. One of my fellow "orientaters" was sent home today.....the last day of orientation!!! And not because of anything that happened during orientation.
An oft heard phrase at the academy and at orientation, "They shouldn't have let me come all the way here and get this far if "that" (whatever "that" is) was going to be a problem. Correct!!!! They shouldn't, but they do!!!
Bottom line: If your backyard needs cleaning, do the cleaning yourself ahead of time.
Good luck! If this has helped, great. If not, I tried. If there's anything else that I might be able to help you with, all ya gotta do is ask! -
I can tell you that they ran a background check on me through Hireright (used to be USIS commercial services). Check included my DAC report, criminal check, Retail theft database, and drug and alcohol convictions. all came back clean and I'm set for orientation in Syracuse on the 6th. still, ONGB has a good point, C.Y.A. Fix what you have to before you go

my deal is i have a misdemenor charge that was dropped but my recruiter said that everything was ok. i have papers saying it was dropped but i dnt want this to be a problem once i get to orientation. it was not a plea deal the charges were simply dropped. i told my recruiter that i could send them those papers and she said dnt worry about it. she said that everything was good to go. not sure what to do. i dnt want to get there and them send me home for this. i would think they wouldnt because on the application it only asks if you have been "convicted" which i wasnt. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Simplest answer I could give to that would be to take your documentation with you, as long as they show the charge was dropped you should be good to go

Also, ask your recruiter if your application has been reviewed by a processor. In the Swift world, there is a "good cop, bad cop" thing going on, i.e., recruiter (good cop), processor (bad cop)!!Last edited: Jun 24, 2010
