    I found that loose leaf was much easier to fix when I screwed up.

    That is pure speculative rumor...there are so many inherent problems (glitches) in the programs...also they can manually be manipulated by a company...both for the good of, and to the detriment of a driver. And the driver will have no means to verify the discrepancy.

    Several states scale systems are fighting the system due to the possible problems with "communicating" with the different soft ware programs the different companies could use. Just like the insurance issue, the government "can't" force all the companies to use the same soft ware.

    How would they force an O/OP to have electronic in the truck? They going to pay for it?

    otherhalf, I don't understand the communication issue several states scale systems are having. Theres nothing to communicate. I drove with electronic logs over a year and a half. If you get checked on the road the officer takes your Qualcom keyboard and enters into the logs....there is nothing to connect to it by the state. The unit keeps the previous 8 days logs just like paper. You can check the current days status, previous days status, any previous 8 day weekly hour total or any other area of compliance at the touch of a couple buttons. You are required to carry an instruction sheet ( made by Qualcom...not the trucking company) to give the officer (for his use on how to actually check the logs) in the case you have an officer who doesn't know how to check electronic logs. You are also required to carry paper logs in case your satellite goes down for a few hours for server maintenance, poor reception area, or whatever. The Qualcom will automatically alert you if the electronic log stops recording so that you can keep a paper log during that time frame..it likewise alerts you when the logging has been restored. I'm a *really* old fashioned/old school guy but have to be honest..for the most part liked the electronic log.....since I was driving for a company who made you park when out of hours anyway. Press a button at any time and it would tell you your remaining time, if you had the voice feature, or you could look at it since it's displayed on the screen all the time. I vowed I would never ever drive a truck with electronic log but it was a learning experience and actually glad I did. Do they have drawbacks..yes. Like when you are 30 miles from home and run out of hours...it's hard to park it when you're that close to home. But at least now I don't have to rely on second hand information from people who have never used one. They are simple and super easy to use, a caveman could do it. I'm just trying to understand how states are having issues other than officers who may be having trouble checking them. I've run into a couple like that LOL. Oftentime I feel like a lost dinosaur waking up in a modern world with all the electronic crap going on anymore. By the way I always enjoy your posts as they are sensible and informative.

    Ive heard good and bad things and would not mind them but there are times when u need 15 more minutes to find a spot to park for the nite...like in L.A. area...I was in san berdino and had to drop at stater bros..I was almost out of hours and told them..no movement at all from them..my dm tried calling and pushing them..but no. 3hrs later i was unloaded and out of hours...there's no where to park there at all..Tried telling my dm but they never responded to me...oh boy im in trouble...all the streets had no truck parking...so I drove 15 min back to our yard.If i had elec logs I would have been over and I'm pretty sure I would have heard about it...just my .02..

    I just don't see the problem with loose leaf logs. As it is we have a log book that uses a carbon page to make an unreadable copy. The original we have to tear out and scan, then file them and keep them for our records.

    With the new logs, we'll have two days on one page and no unreadable copy. Thus we'll have a fourth of the paper. The log will be in a binder so after scanning we'll just put it back in.

    I think it'll be better. I also think it's "much ado about nothing".

    i dont see the problem with loose leaf logs... as i pull the staples out of my log book already. have done that for years and have had no problems

    With me being a local driver, it is horrible. I make many stops a day and there is not nearly enough space to put all my stops down.

    Yeah we had carbon copies too and I scanned my top copy.They had 2 days on 1 page and the bottom one stayed in the book...Never had and issues with them either...
