dodgeram, You're right to a pointe now about the experience being required. That has changed, they are taking new drivers with no experience as I type. I'm not totally sure, but they may be opening up the CDL thing again as well. I heard something about it.
I thought I was going to hear an admonishment from you as well.
You gave some good advice there.

GOOD JOB!!!! And thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I'm getting tired of reading about people bashing this company or that when really they have no clue what the facts are. And bashing a driver just because he drives for a company is no better. The only real advice that anyone can give is to do the research. Anything other than that is just opinions and is worth just that much. As for admonishing you about what you had said, I wasn't offended by it.
Jdsouza, thank you for your service. We are here because of you. -

Thanks all yea it had been a long 20 years but I survived. I know that these are all statrer companys but it sems alot of the other companys around seattle tacoma washington area require atleast 12 months OTR I will keep my options open when time gets closer to my final days in the navy

I drove for Swift for 22 mo and did ok.
I noticed you are in the SeaTac area. 2 more companies to check out (your mileage may vary). GTI (Gordon Trucking) in Sumner and TWT out of Spokane. Both run I-5 alot and have good rigs and safety. They also accept students. After 6 mo or so, check out Interstate.
At Swift (WA state), the primary is Heavy Haul. You can search the Swift postings for my review of the teminal and the division.
Oh and FYI, the VA will help with schooling. Commercial Drivers Services in Lakewood was very good.
Best of luck to you and Thank you for your service.

I read Werner might pay extra to vets. Some kind of government deal. They'll probably fall all over themselves to get you. They seem to have a lot of dented up junk going down the road.
My take home this week was about $525 for 2200+ miles. I claim zero deductions. Figure in $47.20 a day deduction for 7 days on the road really in essence, over $800 for the week!
I am glad Swift took me. I was considering going elsewhere.
1. Can't refuse loads at the other companies I've looked at.
2. We do lots of drop and hook. At least 90%
3. Live loads, and unloads are uncompensated time.( Perhaps I can make the same or more money rolling at a lower rate? Not sure.)
4. Swift has a bigger freight base than probably anyone else except Schneider. We haul lots of Schneider logistics labeled loads! So we might sit less than other companies do.
Hey I am just a newbie trying to sort it all out.wildbill123 Thanks this. -
I'd never do anything like that or suggest anything like that. any vets who have earned it have EARNED it. -
If you go to school that is PTDI certified, don't mind being out 3-4 weeks? Check out Crete. I couldn't get in there, bad work history. They told me to go drive for 16-18 months with one company and reapply.
I could have already gone to Conway TL . I go to $.32 at my 6 month point. that should boost my pay from $.28 -
Does not currently have a job.
Has had more than one job in the last year.
Has had any tickets in the last two years.
............................
so basically we dont hier people who need a job, only people who dont. Makes sense, right? Seems like bottom feeder inc to me with the pay compared to their LTL pay.....
