I think so many 'experienced' drivers that post opinions based on hearsay with no personal knowledge themselves is a real disservice to those seeking information and knowledge. Or those that screwed themselves out of a job by either not being professional or following company policies and are bitter and hateful.
As for Swift, and the comment about Millington ... do some research and learn the truth, I have. The issue was not with the Millington Academy or their program, it was with the state of Tennessee. At the time new students were required to get their permit from the state after they arrived, then later receive their CDL from the state before returning to their home state. The feds stepped in when they saw the number of licenses issued, they were counting both permits and license as separate incidents (approx 550) not a large number when you consider it is a training academy and only half of that was actual licensed drivers (one permit, one license per driver) The academy never suffered any penalties or repercussions besides having their name dragged through the mud over the incident. The practice was stopped not because of the feds but because of the issue of having the license transfered to a home state, some states wont allow the transfer and the driver would have to start completely over. Stevens transport still does this as the new student uses the temp housing (hotel) as their address to apply for the permit, others may as well. It is easy to have one training program to pass the state the school is in, the Swift Academies have to tailor the program to each driver depending on the drivers home state requirements to pass the DMV. As a plus if it matters to you, Millington is also PTDI certified.

I drove for Swift and had to leave. really screwed up! I am an ex sailor too. really screwed that up too! see the pattern. now the truth swift starts you out low! but your truck is fairly new mine was 2 yrs old ran good followed the rules made what I could make always on time never caused a problem I did turn down a few loads, but I always called DM and explained why I didn't want it BEFORE I canceled it on QC. they treated me right so look at what you can find but just like the day you said I do! you wont know whats on the other side until you get there.

I was with a GTI last year and am just going back into trucking with Swift..Not because I did anything wrong but because of their freight base....it's huge. I will be in calif alot and need a descent truck and not a piece of junk too...they have pretty good equip...They also have dedicated routes available after u have some seat time.. Everyone and their mother has their own point of view on these companies, some good, some bad...the only thing I can suggest is to hit the local truck stops and ask drivers what they think of their current situation..most of all, being a ex AirForce guy, I went with what felt right in my gut...it worked then and works now...I hope

Schneider was good to me...I would have never left if they hadn't sold their flat bed division.

ok, to the people who say don't drive for the bottom feeders, well these people only drive for small companys that have lots of broker loads, or massive live loads and have to wait for there next load do to a (small) frieght base, i drove for schneider for a few years 2001 to 2004 lots of drop and hook and clean showers at the terminals, REMEMBER, the company with the most trailers means more drop and hook, swift has more trailers and more terminals, which means staying away from the loading DOCK and dirty showers at the truck stops, been away from trucking sence 2004, house is paid for and no kids, got paid .37 cents per mile, now the pay sucks, to many drivers out there, i like to come back out this spring but only if the pay is much better, back then it was 2 days off when your out of hours, WHICH IS 48 HOURS NOT TWO DAYS, now it 34 hours GEE whats that 1 day off,
