I think they offer it at every terminal. It is just what it sounds like- you work 2 weeks and get a week off. Each time you leave, you clean out the truck, each time you come back you will have a different truck. It's a great option for people who only want "part time" or have a compelling reason to be home more. Though if you really have a compelling reason to be home, I don't know why you'd be driving a truck at all.

It's also for brand new people...at least, at Troutdale it is. Kind of a test drive for the new folks to see where they want to end up. My DM is the guy who got that fleet. He chose about 1/3 of his original fleet to stay on his board and got the slip-seat fleet.

There are those among us who don't need or want to be out that long, and others who don't want to work very hard while they are out...sort of treating the company truck like a paid RV and the planners likee travel agents. Swift is not in the travel business and can't afford to have idle trucks. This gives everybody what it looks like they want: Swift gets productive trucks and the homebodies get home more often and for longer periods. New people are not forever consigned to this fleet. As soon as they prove themselves to be productive, they are moved to the general fleet.

Sounds like the family plan to me that they are making mandatory if you do not run the miles per week that you are required to run.

When you go home you turn the truck in. This will be mandatory shortly as right now it is in affect out of the Houston terminal.

    Exact words below

New this year, we have the family plan. The family
plan allows company drivers to go out a minimum
of 2 weeks, and then come back home and turn the
truck in. They can then take 2-12 days off work to
spend with their family. This program is both voluntary,
and also mandatory. Anyone in the Bronze
ranking, who is not meeting 1961 miles per week
average, may end up in this program.
The benefit for Swift is we can immediately
assign that truck out, and put revenue on it,
which helps all of us achieve the company goals of
    profitability.

Well, I didn't make the requirements this winter, as all I did was sit every weekend I was out on the road when I was screaming for a preplan.

I'll leave if I'm forced into this.

I was told it was 7500 miles a month.

This isn't a bad thing, If you live decently close to a terminal. Can work well for single people like myself, I did run like this being a temp and it was great.
