Seems like Swift might not have enough trucks or trainers tomorrow. Sad thing is my husband has more experience than a lot of the other recruits AND we have $0 money to get him home (much less back up there) when they finally do get trainers/trucks.

Anybody had this happen??? Can he tell them our situation and get put on whatever is available?

This is in Decatur, GA btw.

I believe if you are more than 50 miles from the terminal Swift will put you on the Greydog back home if they will not have a mentor available right away for you. If its only going to be a day or two then they will keep you at the hotel.

I sure as hell hope it's either tomorrow or a day or two cause we are flat out broke! I am at my wits end. We're in a decent sized town, companies all over say they are hiring but nobody calls, and we have $13 to last til he gets his first check. He still needs a new atlas, a roadpro cooker, and a cooler too! I don't know what to do anymore!!! If he can't get on the road and start getting some money coming in by Friday at the latest we are oh so screwed! I'm talkin' no home, no lights, no phone, no driving....nothing. :'( And people wonder why I whine and cry or have mood swings lately. This stress and joblessness is killing me!!!

If it is of any help to you, he should not need to buy that cooker or cooler as long as he is with a trainer. Right now he needs to concentrate on his training, regardless of his experience. The other stuff can come after he has gotten a few paychecks.

Good luck to both of you.

He's not buying anything except food while he's with his trainer, lol. He'll only get the cooker when he has his own truck (after a week or two with the trainer - so they say). The cooler will have to wait. Of course XM is on his list but that's more of a Christmas present possibly.

Does anyone know how long the average wait for a trainer/truck in Decatur, GA is? You'd think if they know they have orientation each week they'd have people/trucks lined up when they need them. Guess not?

You would think so but not really. In order to do that they would have to have trucks waiting and that costs money (they lease trucks so if they are not making money they are losing it). Why do that when you can have drivers waiting for free and keep the trucks rolling. Not saying its right but I'm pretty sure thats how Swift or most any other company sees it.

I just hope...no pray...that he gets in a truck by Friday (if not tomorrow). We simply can't afford for him to not work and make money.

And yes...I've been looking myself. He has had more interviews and phone calls than I have and that's not saying much. It's almost like I have just enough education for them to say "nope, she's too smart and could take my job pretty dang quick so I'm not gonna call her".

You are right. It is an employers market right now. They have pick of the litter so to speak. They know educated people such as yourself are not going to come cheap so why hire when there are thousands of people looking for jobs that they can get in the door cheaper. Hey, that sounds like the trucking industry!

Keep at it and something will come up. Hope your husband can get on a truck soon.
