The only extra pay they make is $25 for crossing the border, one crossing per run, of course.

It's true that you have to be within a certain radius, something like 90 miles. It also may depend on your home terminal.
Once I was 93 miles away, and they said no way.
Currently I live about 13 miles from a terminal, so it is always easy if I can get a load I can t-call or is close enough.
Recently I took home time near Sacramento, CA. T-called in Lathrop on bobtailed from there.
Bottom line is, is it safe to park it at home? If it is, you'll probably be able to.
Idle time?
They frown on it.
As to 'let' you idle sometimes - that is up to you, since you have control in the truck. You can idle to your hearts content.
But, as I have been, you might get written up for it.
I still do it, as needed.
I have been written up for it once, as I've said. But I seem to have a higher than wanted idle time every month - for over 2 years.
It seems that if you idle more than an hour a day, you'll be over.
But I've had trucks with Wabasto units that didn't work, even after being 'fixed' in the shop.
Times that it was simply too hot, and a bunk heater is of no use.
And it seems that after a year the batteries simply won't hold enough charge, so I need to idle a couple hours just to keep them charged. (my current 2013 Volvo is like that now)
I keep most all the other factors in good favor... Fuel mileage, safety score, on-time rating...
My turn-down rate is usually high though. Those Plus-1 loads simply don't give enough time, so I adjust the times very often.
Company trucks are set to 62-63 MPH. L/O are a couple MPH faster, and O/O a very little bit higher than that.
And don't try to make up for it on the downhill. Overspeed is a killer to your job.scottied67 Thanks this. -

Swift has great training. Not sure about their schooling. The idea here is to get in, get trained, and move on.. Lots of better companies to choose from after about 6 mos.
