Your going back to trainee pay for a few weeks on a mentor flat bed truck. So your pay will be whatever swift's new training pay is. From what I have heard its not good. As for the schedule that will be upto your mentor at first and what ever swift gives you for loads later.

With all the reputable flatbed companies, why swift?

My guess is for training he said 6 months Otr most likely doing Van's. Swift is good to get your foot in the door. Slammed and bruised but in the door.

I can't complain about my experience with Swift's flatbed division. Well, I can, but, all in all, I'd describe the experience as fair. Granted, this was in 2002.

Theres many good flatbed companies that will hire and train newbies. You would be better off with them instead of Swift.

Hate to just chime in Like this but... Cowboy asked something about swift on a swift board! Why must everyone ask "why swift?" If you can't give a answer to what was asked, just stay out of it. Everyone has their reasons making their choice.

    Now that being said. Cowboy,
As far as pay goes, you would have to talk to a recruiter about what your base pay would be. As for flatbed pay, we get 1 cent more then van drivers with the same exp level. We get $23 bucks per load if it needs to be tarped. As far as hours go, work when you want to, just as long as the load gets to where it needs to go and is on time. Im sure that is not what you wanted to hear but the short of it is, it depends on the load. Some accounts are JIT freight and may have to drive out of your comfy time every now and then.

Training for you: you did not say if it was 6months of flatbed or van. I'm going to assume van, so, more then likely you will go out with a flatbed mentor for 120 hours(depending on road test).

Now I'm not trying to be a butthole when I say this, but... There are a few good post here just for the flatbeding side of swift and they are pretty updated. Main post that I read that helped make up my mind about flatbeders was titled something like, diary of a swift flatbed driver. Then I have one that I'm sure you did read titled, some fb info from new guy in Greer. I know I did not cover pay and the reason for that, there are other post talking about pay. I only tried to fill in the gaps that I have seen.

I wish you best of luck even if you don't choose swift. So ride safe out there and be sure to let us know how your application goes.
