I know a L/P that is on the Grandview Walmart account full time as a solo. She is doing quite well making fistfuls of dollars.

If your intention is to stay with Swift, the smartest move is to buy a good used truck outside of Swift and Lease on with them. Your payment will be half of what Swift is charging and yes, the truck may be used, but the money you'll be saving you can put it away for any future repairs.

Also if you ever feel things aren't working out between Swift and you, you can always part ways and take your truck to another Company, you can't if you Leased a truck through Swift.

    Good luck.

Congrats on the new purchase. You can make money. I am a mentor on a dedicated account. Between 4000-4500 miles per week and home every weekend if I want. Paycheck today for 4050 miles, $2400. You can make it no matter what the naysayers say.

Well if you ever do decide to train and unless things have changed since I have been gone, Lewiston had a school up there so students would be prime picking. The 740 account any team can get on as long as there are no service failures. They also call it the Fed EX account. I spent 10 days stuck in Lewiston after being hit by a 4 wheeler up on 90 waiting to get my truck fixed. The KW shop there rocks is all I have to say.

Now, I swear there has to be one or two that just can't help but try and knock someone down which just shows to me they tried and couldn't handle things out on the road but oh well. Keep you head up and wheels between the white lines.

The answer is lacking .. as in lacking initiative - lacking ambition - lacking motivation - lacking a work ethic ... in a word lazy.

Not all but, too many company drivers are content to get their 1500 to 2000 miles a week and then it's time for a reset and sit on their butt. At 2000 miles I make just as much as a company driver and at 3000 miles a week - which is what I average when I'm out - I net $.50+ a mile to my business.

Why do so many fail? ... Because they hop in a lease and run it like they are company drivers. They don't know how to run their business. The don't know how maintain their truck. They don't how to get their miles ... but they know how to sit on their butts and they spend their time doing what they know ... Then after they fail, they whine about how they got screwed on a flease and there are thousands upon thousands of them. Then the ignorant, the sheeple and those incapable of thinking for themselves fall into line and go "uh-huh, leasing is a rip off".

90% of all start up business, in all industries, in America fail. It's a testimony to the American spirit, that in the face of so much failure, so many continue to try.

Don't ask why so many fail? But, why there are those that succeed? Are they just lucky? Or is it because they are smarter, better prepared and willing to put in the effort?

Riddle me this what if you catch a bad flu and can not work for two weeks? How much money will youmake the first two weeks back behind the wheel now that you're two payments behind? There is a reason these companies push these flease programs. And it is NOT for your benefit. Has nothing to do with lacking initative.

I agree with Mystic here. I have seen those that when they get into the deal, they see large checks, then go out and chrome their trucks, then forget what they are doing. I have been at the terminals, those that say the freight is slow, and I have never had a problem getting out, Laredok, Fontana. the ones that are failing, those that are waiting for the choice loads. It is a business. You have to treat like one. Take a load with 100% mt to get you to a area that the fr8 is better, well then, you better make sure that when you get there, it is better. You will see that those of us that post here, we are all making it, and I personally know some that are not posting here, they are doing just great.

As far as Lewiston, Dewayne is looking for Mentors. They have them, and my last student was from there. the nice thing, those that are from up there, they know winter driving, and Lewiston does have a dedicated fleet, Canada.

Me? I'd make $620 a week during the 2 weeks I was sick and I make $620 a week during the next 2 weeks and every week after that ... just like I did every week before I got sick.

Here's a hint ... companies don't do anything for anyone's benefit. Not for their employees, not for their customers, not for their contractors and not for their vendors ... companies exist only to benefit themselves.

How if you didn't turn the miles and have two payments behind? 2+2 isn't adding up to 4 here. And you think $620 a week is good money for a driver? Let alone an OTR one? It's not. Do you have health insurance, worker's comp, unemployment insurance, are you paying into SS?

    That's what I am saying.
