IME, everything is learned by error. You won't be told what you need to know until you do it wrong.

Keep a close eye on payments/reimbursements. Develop a very good working relationship with your Driver Manager!! Let them know you appreciate their efforts on your behalf.

I think Swift sucks, but I try to attribute it to their being a large company, and unlikely different than any other large company. I love my job, if not my employer, same as I love my country, if not my government!

You can request male/female, smoker/nonsmoker, but that's it.

If you have problems with your mentor, ask to change mentors WHILE AT A TERMINAL. I'd be interested in knowing how many people made it through with just one mentor! It took me two - first one was an abusive ####### (no longer allowed to mentor), second just played games on her phone while I did all the driving. A friend who had a great mentor and shared his lessons with me via phone took pity on me and we team drove while he trained me my first few weeks after official mentoring.

Just tell your driver manager/terminal "I want to team with so-and-so". I have no idea if Swift keeps a list of strangers looking for teammates (iiuc that's what CRST does).

We had some issues with which terminal was going to get our team (Lewiston won over Sumner), and then getting both drivers and a two-person truck in the same place! Swift did pay for the hotel in Denver while I waited for my teammate to show up from Sumner - with a single bunk volvo! Awesome, now route us to Phoenix ya'll!!

I would recommend go solo first. Learn swifts way and once you are comfortable then find a teammate.

I made it through on a single mentor. Worked out really well, too. The mentor lived in same city as I did and only a few blocks away. I didn't smoke, but he did in a courteous manner. We got along pretty good. Can't say everything was sun and roses, but we all have bad days.
