I am fixing to attend Swift driving school, and I have some questions. My first question is how much money should I bring with me to the school? My second question is does the tuition cover the cost of the actual CDL license?

Back in the dark ages when I went to their school (really only 10 years ago), yes the tuition covered the cost. When it was time for me to get my CDL, the instructors told me take this Swift check and pay for your CDL. We don't cover the cost of amy non trucking endorsement though. I had my motorcycle license and was willing to pay for that myself, but the clerk said we only take one form of payment. Swift unknowingly paid for my scooter endorsement since I was not about to give it up. In the years and miles I have worked for them, I think I have more than paid them back. LOL

I'm actually leaving and heading to the Millington Swift Academy in the next hour... My recruiter told me to bring between 150-200 bucks, I brought more than that but she said I'd be fine off that. As far as I know, you pay for your license but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

I have my MC license also so we will see how that plays out. I'm sure they got that endorsement cost back in the millions of miles you have drove for them lol! thanks for the info and would appreciate any advice you can give.

The recruiter should be able to give you a specific dollar amount that you will need for your license. It varies by state. If they can't, get hold of someone at the Academy you will be attending.

I went to the Richmond, VA Academy. Since I live in PA, I had to pay $220 to the third party examiner that Swift uses. The VA students had to pay something like $30-$50 for their exam.

Remember that you will be buying your own food while you're at the Academy. You'll need a lot more money if you have dinner delivered than if you have hot dogs and baked beans.

Do you go back to your state to take the test? How does that work?

I believe that Swift sends you back to your home state for the test. In our case (PA), we have a test truck parked at the examiner's site.

Oh okay, thanks for information... I know in KY, when you get your permit you have to pay for the road test too so I was just curious.
