What makes you think so? You run it?

From my experience, and that of the Mentor, that isn't true. So I'd take it with a grain of salt. Some good days, some bad days.
Even if it was true, is there a problem making 2200-2500 miles a week and going home on most Sundays? Not for me. I spent Sunday at the pool.
For those who want to know: So far, it's not bad.
Got a good mentor for 50 - 100 hours (I was out of a truck for 18 months - and asked for mentor to teach me the ports, and got it.)
Stopped Monday in Carson to get my TWIC card $129, +/- two weeks mailed to my house. I'll say if it's longer. I'll be done with the 50-100 by then.
Leaving on a 2500 mile container run this afternoon that will finish Friday, and then head back here. Not bad, easier than running in and out of the port.

I'll post anything interesting or valuable for anyone who wants to know more.

Read this thread. I clearly said I was on it. You only go to Houston once in a while. Other than that as a solo expect 1800 miles to 2100. Trust me that's why I left plus no waiting time even if you wait 8 hrs.

Yeah. You did. But not now. Could be different now, maybe not. How long ago were you on it?
Anyway, I'm seeing more than that so far. It's still early.
On the other hand, mega-miles aren't my main concern.
I'm independently wealthy and do this as a hobby. LOL

My last container run was some time in may 2014. They have like 3 contracts. Bose being the biggest one and comes with a little perks no one likes. Like 1) travel 200 miles with out stopping 2) no waiting time pay. Like I said before if they paid it a bit more I'd still be there. Oh i forgot the communication to the DM is non existent after like 2 pm. Pacific time. Lol

I was in the container division my entire time at Swift. It's not LA to Phoenix and back. Often Otay Mesa, and Calexico. If you live in so Cal you can be home often parking with empty cans but loaded you need to go to Mira Loma or get a call in the night. I made $500/wk doing cans and $1000 take home doing otr. I stayed in the division but ran otr. I would do cans when training and only when the students were team driving. Adam is a great guy and dm Stephanie is too. Sal the can boss is good too. But the ports take too long to get in and out of and the miles just aren't there.

He is talking about getting home without using home time. Your twic card is an id, sneaking around could get you kicked out of a port but hard to lose the twic card, similar to losing your passport.

Just finished my first week on the container fleet actually going to the ports.

First off, if you think you're gonna run between Phoenix and the LA ports....no, not really.

I was lead to believe that I would be running a round trip of Phoenix to the LA ports then to Otay Mesa/Calexico/Yuma, AZ, then back to Phoenix.

In reality I ended up taking an MT container from Phoenix to the American Presidential Line (APL) port in Terminal Island then spent the next 3 days running between the APL port and Otay Mesa/Calexico. I also did a t-call at the drop yard in Montebello and had to spend the night there after picking up a load from Otay Mesa that delivered the next day (200 mile rule).

Had I known that I would end up spending the week running around SoCal 200+ miles at a shot I would have passed. Throw in 3 days without a shower and no place to park and maybe you'll understand why I'm not a happy camper.

Gonna have a sit down with my DM/Fleet Manager on Monday and see if we can work something out. If not I'll be out the cost of my TWIC card, RFID transponder, and the port fees, and I'll be back in the 05 division.

Sometime things are just not meant to be.

Very long story-short, after 3 days with no loads and an settlement of $11.27 for the week I'm back in the 05 division.

As much as I want/need to be home with my family I need to make money.

    HousTank and inkeper Thank this.

I very much dislike the idea of sitting around waiting for shippers or receivers. For that reason I've never wanted to haul reefers or containers.
