Honestly its amazing that dashcams are not standard equipment on all tractors just to stop the BS lawsuits from people brake checking 18 wheelers into a free payday.6 Speed Thanks this. -

Swift has an appeal where they have drivers decide. If the accident is deemed preventable your dm or term manager can get you the appeal paperwork or do it for you. Fight it your bonus takes a hit with a preventable.

I just bought one.
Just after Swift issued the new driver handbook which states 'no video recording devices'... somewhere in there.
I wonder if they are referring to dash cams?!
I'm really too lazy to go back through the handbook to find the page, but why would they not want us to have a video recording device?
Just like, no power inverters.
Sorry, but I live in and make my living in their truck.
I'll do what I need to stay safe and sane, well fed, connected... etc..
The inverter thing seems to be a non-issue, at least for the ones that use a 12V socket.
Mine is always in the open and plugged in when I put the truck in a shop. Not a word has ever been said about it.
But, a video recorder?
Why would that be banned??? -
The small fleet I work was audited back in the spring and the DOT officer saw my camera and was actually successful in convincing my boss that dash cams were a bad idea and I was told too remove it,which I did.
A few weeks went by and I changed my mind and informed my dispatcher that it was that important to me and if he insisted I remove my camera then he could take my 2 weeks notice and I would gladly work it and leave.
That was several months ago and not another word about my dash cam.
The reasons in having one are obvious and are the same reasons authority don't want us having them. -

I think the notion that Swift loves racking up preventables is a tad off base, so it's more of a red herring than anything. There's lots of things about Swift that are "remotely talked about" on this forum and elsewhere. I joined Swift last year AFTER hearing all that remote talking and AFTER going to the local terminals of companies I was considering. Swift invited me to come on in and walk around, talk to the recruiter, talk to the dispatchers, talk to the drivers, and look at the equipment. Not one other company went out of their way to show me the operation "open kimono" like that. Some went out of their way to let me know I was NOT welcome.
I put "remote talk" on the same value level as tits on a shovel.HousTank Thanks this. -
