I hear ya on the swift mechanics, I'd avoid them like the plague. And no California with a non-egr truck? I might have reconsider.....

I've just decided.. where do I sign up? Haha

Yeah I've been looking at finacing/leasing companies outside of swift so see what options there are if any for me. With my credit the way it is I'm not going to get my hopes up. When I talked to the recruiter yesterday she said they were accepting all mades models and years, with a 2000 sign on bonus. But if I do lease I'd have to pay for all the equipment myself headache rack, strap chains etc... today I might stop by a dealership by my house and talk to some of the finace people to see what I I need to accomplish before I get into one.

If you are going to consider an outside leasing company you can try Lone Mountain Leasing. They have some pretty decent trucks from what I have heard. I don't think a bank will touch you because you don't have the experience so this could be an option.

if you goto swift flatbed as a company driver and then lease. All you have to pay for is the headache rack. The rest of the equipment transfers over with you. You dont get charge up front. Get a used rack. Phoenix has some and greer body shop has some.

I know all about Swift mechanics - I'm a CO driver, after all.

But, I haven't had any more problems with them than any other shop I've been in.
In fact, I have been treated very well by them and they have kept my trucks running very well.

    For the most part.
But the 'problem truck' (the ProStar) seemed to be a headache for anyone that worked on it. (I had it for 6 months, with a total in-shop time of 6 weeks!)
And that old Volvo with 525k miles was just a Junker.

I do have a little knowledge, so sometimes I have to steer them in the right direction to get the problem fixed with the first try.
But that has also been the case in the T/A or Petro shops, or the on-road service trucks that are sent, or when I call Swift On-Road.

Fixing problems in these newer trucks can be as much of an art, as it is a science.
So many systems interact with each other, and are controlled by so many others - sometimes the computer codes lead one astray.

I've had this 2013 Volvo for well over a year, and it's been in the shop maybe 8 times. (I got it brand new almost 1.5 years ago)
Only once was it not for the fuel or air filter (and that time is was a bad turbo speed sensor), but every time the codes indicated something else (except for the turbo sensor).
Air filter once, fuel filter every other time. And my current filter appears to be full again, but it keeps on running.
That's my 'little knowledge' and 'art'. Whenever anything goes wrong with the engine losing power, first check those two little things.

Good to know moose, sometimes I think us swift drivers should have a website to post all of our collective Knowledge of the different aspects of this company. Kind of like a Wikipedia page where we could go in and edit one page instead of always having to post a new thread in this forum. We all know a little of something that we can contribute to, but in the in end I think somebody may abuse that useage. Which sucks because we all want to help each other be sucessful with this company.

    Arkansas Frost Thanks this.

    We have that right here.

All it takes is to start a thread that we can all contribute to.
But then, we would have to search through that thread for all the various tidbits - once it reached a certain length it would be as difficult as searching through the entire forum.

Think I might keep an eye on those then, I have noticed the truck not pulling as well especially up hills so will give a good check during my pre trip tomorrow.

As for the knowledge contributing, anyone can build a wiki site, just need someone to organize it and do it.
