Sitting at the TA in OKC all day, relaxing and my trainee is busy studying for his written exam. I've given him reams of information to take with him on his truck after he upgrades. He's ready. He's motivated. He'll be a fine driver and will accomplish his goals.

Tomorrow morning I'll drive over for the live unload delivery tomorrow morning, then hand the wheel over for the last time to my trainee as he deadheads us to Paris, TX to do a drop and hook and then onward to Memphis where he'll get off the truck and see his relatives before testing out early next week. I can truly say I've made a good friend. It will be good to follow his successes.

Dropped my tcall in Edwardsville and "swiped" an mty from the yard for my next shipper down in Springfield MO. A heavy preloaded D/H going to Houston for hometime.

The fuel route I was given to Houston is ludicrous and I will not be taking it. Over 200+ miles down a nasty beat up 2-lane through the heart of the Ozarks down to Little Rock to fuel in Prescott on I-30, then hwy 59 from Texarcana to Houston. That equates to over 600 miles of small towns, stop lights and tall hills with a heavy load at night. Plus it adds lots of miles not paid. No way!!

I'll be doing I-44 to US-69/75 down to Plano and I-45 to Houston. Miles match loaded and it's all 4-lane. I'll reop for fuel at a Loves along the way.

I had one the other day...
From Cheyenne, WY to Las Cruces, NM.

It had me going down I-25 then east on 70, then down 287 to I-40 W then...
When it was a straight shot down I-25.
    It added several hundred miles!

I called my DM, and he was as perplexed as I was.
    I simply took I-25.

I'm wondering where that other truck driver is that the Swift driver had contact with.

Sounds like the other vehicle was a pickup truck towing a trailer:

    http://www.kcra.com/news/local-news...rosstown-freeway-after-big-rig-crash/29466852

"The other driver was not injured." This means that driver was likely at the scene and questioned.

Pay special attention to non-professionals that are towing trailers and give them room, especially in slick conditions. You don't know if they hooked it up properly, loaded it properly, have the load secured properly, or know how to handle it. Three times in the last year I've had to take evasive action to get around AND to help others get around a refrigerator, a couch, and a mattress on the freeway. Once almost had to take evasive action when a pickup/trailer combo started a severe wiggle waggle and nearly lost it in front of me.

    Stay safe out there.

Them, the snowbirds towing campers and U-hauls ... They don't realize the trailer is often wider than what they are used to and will let it drift on the zipper ... also they forget the trailer is behind them and will come over as soon as their rear bumper clears, out of habit.
