OK, so I understand that you if you lease a truck, its through IEL. Are there clauses in the contract prohibiting an APU? Also, do they count the APU as a damage or any applicable fee for installing one? Does swift allow any specialty pricing for APU's or are you pretty much on your own?

You can install one ... but you run the risk of it staying with the truck if you turn it in.

In all honesty you really have to be idling an inordinate amount of time to cost justify an apu.

I agree, all you really need is a small 2000 watt gasoline generator and a 7000-8000 btu portable air conditioner and you're golden. Cost will be about $1500 or less, APU about $8000- $10,000 bucks.

To All Lease Operators on Flatbed,

Hauling Dodge ProRams out of Laredo, does it pay and who handles the logistics of getting those vans shipped?

    And that's why Swift doesn't install APU's.
They are not cost effective for the number of miles they keep the trucks.

It would take at least 350-400 thousand miles to pay for the APU in fuel savings (not including maintenance costs), and they unload the trucks at around 500k.
It is far more cost effective to just hound the drivers to keep idle times low.

And that is also why I ignore the idle time guidelines and simply idle when I need to.

The rate on promasters for Swift o/o is the same as everything else: 95cpm plus fsc. When shipping to areas we don't go to, we broker them out to landstar, greatwide, admiral merchant but you need to have a stepdeck with ramps. The rate for outside carriers is about $2.20 from what I've heard. Logistics is handled by Swift, it is a Swift BOL.

I looked at all these things, talked to the recruiters, got numbers from them and it looked to only make sense training as a mentor. So, I went elsewhere to owner operator. I get double the swift cpm and the company I am at handles the maintenance. I am netting more than Swift owners gross per week.I would recommend anybody start at Swift but once there is experience and if money is needed I am at the place.

U r totally wrong. U do have rights. U can actually take the truck are drive for another clompany as long as u return all of swifts equipment or property and anything with swifts authority or name on it.
