Does anyone know if Swift allows other drivers to buy trucks from owner ops and lease them back on to them? I thought Swift had an age limit on the equipment, but once the equipment is in the fleet it is grand fathered in. So lets say, I want to buy a 2000 model year truck from another o/o who is currently leased to Swift, would they let that driver who just bought it continue to allow it to be in the fleet? I don't see any mega carriers like Swift that have o/o's running older equipment. I saw a Crete O/O for the first time running an older Century. I just wondered if other companies make the drivers upgrade, as they don't have the older trucks, but I always see Swift does for some reason.

first off, why would you lease to swift? A company like landstar will make you a lot more money and they accept older rigs.

I've already posted in the Landstar forum, even the Schneider forum too. I know what a Swift o/o makes, its just a hair better than a company driver. I'm weighing all options. Thanks. Yes, I've seen an old Mack Cabover I believed leased to Land Star, but now your truck must be able to pass their inspection and have the ability to communicate with a Qualcomm.

Why don't you just call the Swift O/Op Department and ask them?

Any truck is Qcomm Capable as long as you install a Qcomm unit in it.

All trucks or trailers, no matter what company you lease to must pass a Annual or BIT Inspection, what makes Landstar any different?

A lot of companies (megas especially) seem to be moving towards 08 and up trucks only. To deal with Cali I guess...

Whats the point of being an o/o if you only make "a hair or then a company driver". If your talking a 2000 truck, your not talking mechanical engine and thus you would easily be able to install a qualcome. Any company will require you to pass a dot, so that's not a factor in who you choose. LS had tons of certified shops that they allow...some are more strict then others.

Now it is getting to the point that mention O/O and Lease on with Swift, Landstar recruiters are coming out of the woodwork.

It's a bit more than a hair, since he would presumably own his truck outright. It's the lease payment that is big cost. ... if he knows what he's doing, as an O/O with no payment, he should net close to $90K a year, less what he holds back for maintenance.

What?? That NOT enough $$..... Shoulkd be netting around $130,000 AFTER maintenance.. Then around $100,000 after taxes.

Remember,,,, You gotta get paid for what your worth AND your time.... 70 hours per week for lets say 50 weeks is a TON of hours involved in such a stressful environment...

So..Yeah an owner-operator with PAID -OFF equipment Better be netting six figures annually...If Not, Your wasting a lot of precious Life.

Best advice?? Quit 'Leasing on' to ANYONE......Remeber, When your a Lessee.........You Cant Control the Game, Which leads to a Financial ceiling
