I noticed it after my new steer tires and drives were installed. I thought it was the tires but it sounded crazy to me. As soon as they were changed I got the speed increase. -
That's it.
I'm demanding a new set of tires at our B service this week.DocWatson Thanks this. -
It doesn't take much thought at all.
If your tires have a larger circumference (which happens with 1 inch of new tread) you will travel farther with each revolution of that tire.DocWatson Thanks this. -
True about the circumference but I figured the governor would account for the change in speed somehow although I have no idea how our trucks are actually governed. I figured it was governed by computer that would cut back the truck at 62 regardless of new tires.
Either way, I like my new tires. -
I'm not sure how the governor determines truck speed.
If it is the gearing then it would probably be engine RPM or something. If so, new tires would have a speed advantage over worn tires.DocWatson Thanks this. -
It goes off of a sensor on your output shaft.
one of my owners had a bad one and it gave her a bunch of exsessive over speeds.
she got the part fixed and no more over speeds.
the govener goes off of rpm. The shop can program in different tire sizes(tall rubber)DocWatson Thanks this. -
So basically when I got my tires replaced the shop didn't program in the new size from what it sounds like. Works for me.
Good info. I wasn't aware it went off the output shaft. -
