When I came home for my first time after going out solo, I miscounted the days, and I'd told my DL on the phone that I'd like to go out tomorrow morning. He seemed iffy at first, but said I was doing a good job and he didn't have a problem with it. I thought it was weird that he made it sound like a favor, because I knew I was supposed to get 4 days. I later realized 4 days would be this morning, so I went out to the truck and sent a QC message explaining my error, saying I could go out this morning (Monday) if needed. He said Tuesday was still fine.

So Sunday night, I got a preplan that would need me to leave around 3am this morning. I didn't read it on the QC and didn't reply, since I'd now already made plans with family for today, and it got taken off. Later I got one for tomorrow morning, which I haven't accepted yet, but I intend to. Then they sent me a local load for this evening, and I'd need to leave now just to get there, but my PTA is still set for tomorrow morning AFAIK.

So even though I did get the QC confirmation of my PTA after macro 34, why do they send me loads before hometime? Should I have accepted that? Wouldn't they call my cell phone if something changed? Do they expect us to check the QC on hometime?

Basically, I want to know how you guys do it when you get hometime. Do you run your PTA by your DL before sending macro 34? Do you accept the load the night before you leave or something?

    Thanks.

Edit: I just talked to my dispatcher, and he said the load for this evening is just a trailer drop for whenever I get off hometime, so no sweat or anything. He had not problem accepting it for me, so I don't have to go back out and mess with the QC. I am still interested to see what you guys do on this. I'm still getting the hang of things, and I always feel like I'm putting people out or not handling things the way planners and dispatchers would like. My DL is always encouraging and tells me I'm doing well, but I just want to be careful after reading on here how important that relationship is.

Set your PTA on the QC before hometime... Why call your dispatch. It should be noted communications on the QC in case of errors. Check your truck the day before your day to roll to verify any communications...

You check your QC each day while on hometime?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I haven't, but they removed a preplan they'd sent me 2 days before my PTA, apparently because I didn't respond quickly enough.

You will find PP's send and removed fast sometimes. It is up to the planners... Just learn to roll with the flow. You may even accept a PP, but it may get pulled later...

That has happened before. Thanks for the help. I was picturing some planner being annoyed that I haven't accepted it yet.

You're doing FINE from what I understand..if I understood you correctly you said this your 1st time going home after solo. So i assume your either a new driver that recently split up from training or either teaming so its normal for it to happen we all done it ..LMAO (INTENTIONALY OR NOT) sometimes I ignored them on PURPOSE when I had a load going to NY,or CHICAGO I HATE THAT TRAFFIC LOL..

If it is IMPORTANT THEY WILL BLOW YOUR PHONE UP WITH VOICE MESSAGES.But DONT IGNORE THEM TO MANY DAYS they'll AUTOMATICALLY FIGURE YOU QUIT AND THEN U HAVE TO CALL YOUR FM AND STRAIGHTEN EVERYTHING OUT.if its a HONEST MISTAKE be nice and courteous to yo FM ...

if they SCREWED U OVER WHILE U WERE OUT AND BELIEVE ME THEY DO SCREW OVER DRIVERS SOMETIMES...and u don't plan on going back WELL THATS ANOTHER STORY AND U CAN GIVE THEM HELL...LOL PAYBACKS A U NO WHAT....LOL

.Just so they can pass it on to another DRIVER I have my own rig now that I own.but when I was out there with a MEGA CARRIER my FM knew when I was going home and knew when I would return. As far as posting loads before your Home time don't really sweat it.

Sometimes theyll post a PRE PLAN on you before you shut down and take home time..sort of as a SUBLIMINAL (REMINDER) not to over stay to long and get what you gotta get done,

but sometimes its a honest mistake depending on what time and day you logged out.EXAMPLE:/Its late Friday 8pm and you just getting home your Return time and day is Monday Morning at 7:30 your FM LEAVES @5:00 pm and is off on weekends, then the weekend crew or as I call them the (##+% OFF) CREW takes over and SEND YOU A LOAD NOT PAYING ATTENTION OR EitHER BLATENTLY DONT CARE N KNOW YOU ARE A NEW DRIVER AND DOES IT N JST TO MESS W YOU.

LOL and of course Monday morning you tell FM about it and he or she acts like they don't know what's going on LMAO.
But You NEVER DO A LOAD WHEN U ARE ON YOUR HOMETIME I NEVER EVEN CHECKED QUALCOM TIL IT WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE I WENT BACK-only then would I check it so I would know how to get everything together.

I had it happen to me a few times, the same way THE NIGHT CREW SENDS YOU A PRE PLAN @4:45AM knowing you just shut down at 10:15pm also knowing you have to get up at 8am and get rolling.
And whenever you are on HOMETIME BEFORE YOU SHUT THAT TRUCK OFF N LOG OUT ..ALWAYS AND I MEAN ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR RETURN TIME SO THEY KNOW TO HAVE A LOAD READY IF ANY

U ask why I say WELCOME TO THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY LOL

I don't check my QC until an hour or so before my PTA.
I also get pplans by text on my phone, so I know when one is sent.

If I'm interested I'll call my DM and get more info about the load - like actual windows for pu and del, mt and loaded miles etc..
If I'm near my truck I'll go out to accept it, adjust times if I need to, or just have my DM accept it for me.
If I'm not interested I'll just ignore it, and it will eventually be removed.

But I'll NEVER let them get away with hanging a load on me more than an hour or two before my PTA.
And if I'll need to find an mt, that is time added to my pu time for that next load.

I usually figure on being in the truck at my PTA time, then add 30 minutes for a pre-trip and another 1-2 hours if I have to find an mt.
Then add the drive time for the mt miles, and that is what time I can pick up the load.

My home time is MY time, and I've earned every second of it!
They might try to cut corners on me, but I don't have to let them get away with it.

Just two things to note on this:

If you have an extra hour or two before PTA and you find the m/t then it gives you an extra 1-2 hours on the back end to kick it around the house plus you will already know if the trailer has any issues before finding one 3 hrs before you are supposed to be at a p/u, then calling into DM to make him aware of situation who will then put in on the Load Planners radar in which planner will probably get annoyed.

Planners get annoyed every day when the plans start to come apart and then they have to come up with relays, etc...just to get the freight delivered. With 50+ loads to get covered everyday plans are bound to come apart. Meanwhile if it is something simple that could have prevented by one driver looking ahead a few steps, it is just frustrating. Partially because a driver is typically the one that suffers due to loss of miles for the week.

This is what I consider driver harassment , they will send you great loads right before going home. While at home they may blow up your QC even while having a PTA set for days later. He'll this time home I got dispatched not planned on a 7 drop load 1400 miles away wtf. Anyway I ignore after my messages have been sent with no pending business, do not disturb I do no truck business of any kind when I am off. I've come to the truck with 30+ messages like approve logs, accept load, PTA resets... Harassment!
