Your best option for a good internet connection is something like the Verizon JetPack. Truck stop internet is way too slow.

An UPS would not be a good choice for power. Those batteries are not made for that purpose and would be ruined very shortly.
Not to mention, you would need a very large UPS if you wanted more than 15-20 minutes with a TV and console hooked to it.
And you would still need an inverter to recharge the batteries, and the 150W a plug-in unit provides probably would not be enough.

I use my phone for internet. Use it as a hotspot don't play consel games. But I play MMO's WOW AND RIFT, on my laptop. I have a company truck I have a 1500w inverter I just uninstall it when I go to shop. What they don't see wont kill them.

I used a 200 watt inverter for my gaming lappy. As for internet, I got real lucky with AT&T. At the time, I had a basic phone with basic internet. Later on, AT&T was giving unlimited 3G access to these phones; so, I turned mine into a modem and had internet just about anywhere I went! However, that won't work these days since none (that I know about) of the cell phone providers provide unlimited anything (except talk and txt). And yes, truck stop internet is terrible for one reason only: not enough bandwidth for the demand. Too many ppl and not enough bandwidth can create some heated moments between you and your lappy. I know it did mine!

The 200 watt inverter should work with most laptops; however, since they plug into a 12v socket, the plug does tend to melt after extended heavy use. Although, they do come with battery wires.

One of my biggest on road expenses is using 4g hotspot from my phone, bandwidth is expensive but you can game with minimal lag pretty good most places. Truck stop wifi is lag central, I know it used to be satellite based which is not recommended for gaming.

As I stated previously, I'm not looking to online game from my console, I just need to be able to connect to Xbox Live to complete my downloads, and wanted to know if anyone has managed to connect a console to TS WiFi considering it makes you go through a gateway page to login, and as of yet I've not found a way to do it from my console. I was wondering if connecting my laptop to the net, then running a network cable to the console would work, anyone try this yet?

I know you can download IE as an app on 360, but not sure if it would autoload the gateway page, or if it even has full functionality. But even if it does I'm still in the same jam as I would need a connection to download it. Was hoping someone had successfully done this before.

I know probably 3 years to late but with my Xbox One, to connect to wifi that I've gotta verify via website I learned i can use a tablet or smartphone to connect then just copy your Mac from that device to the Xbox alternate Mac, turn off original device wifi before connecting xbox and you're good to go.
