    Richter,

Not every unemployed individual is lazy or lacking in initiative.

God bless you and your family! God bless the U.S.A.!

At the time I was out of work for 11 months, (5/9/1992 to 4/12/1993), over 20 years ago, I did NOT collect an unemployment check at all. I had made a very serious mistake which followed me around until I could get back on my feet, (nothing criminal or immoral). I cannot discuss the serious mistake on the forum.

By the GRACE OF GOD, I got hired onto a gas station at minimum wage and worked there a full 2 years, hours ranging from 38 hours to 50 plus hours, 6 days a week, getting 1 raise in those 2 years, (4/13/1993 to 8/13/1995).
I was VERY HAPPY to be back working at a job. Afterwards, I had moved on to a different location and another job which paid a little more with benefits.

The second time that I was out of work was for 7 months, (9/17/2006 to 4/16/2007), over 7 years ago. I had left the Midwest, (10/9/2006), to return to the east coast to help my 2 sisters care for our elderly mother. She had passed away about a year later, (9/30/2007). Again, I did NOT collect an unemployment check.

In the mean time, it had taken me awhile to find a job due to a 14% unemployment rate in the area that I had gone back home to. I did find a job as a part-time retail clerk which I have to this day, (since 4/17/2007). When I had moved back to the Midwest, (1/14/2009), I was able to transfer to a store out there. The store that I transferred then upgraded me from part-time to full time status. This upgrade took place 2/3/2009, over 5 years ago.

Do you know two people who will give you a letter you can get notarized? Shouldn't be difficult. I am not sure why they have the requirement. I'm going to have to do the same. The ten years history is only if you were DOT governed.

Some people find it easy to find a job others not so much. If you found it easy to find a job you might assume it is that way for everyone. But the truth is some people are physically ugly, overweight, don't talk well, have the wrong skill sets, are geographically tied to a certain location, maybe need dental work, have one or two health problems, maybe they are a little on the old side and get nervous at interviews, and then to make matters worse they are discriminated against because they have been unemployed for a year or more. The truth is you do not control your own destiny in the job market, someone else decides your fate. Just like poker, some people just end up with a bad hand every time they go for an interview, and months turn into years. I don't ordinarily suggest that people lie on the resume, but if you have been unemployed for a year or more you might want to start modifying the truth on the resume, and get someone to pretend to be your boss to cove up some of that unemployed time.

The unemployment verification is a tax thing. There was 2 tax incentives for hiring u/e individuals. 1 for payroll tax worth 6.2% paid by the employers portion. The second was a $1000 credit (aka- straight up cash).

Do the qualified employees need to do anything to make it possible for their employer to claim the payroll tax exemption?
    A-QE2:
Yes, qualified employees must certify by a signed affidavit, under penalties of perjury, that they have not been employed for more than 40 hours during the 60-day period ending on the date they started employment. The IRS plans to issue a model affidavit that can be used for this purpose.

For those of you who are jumping all over the unemployed, please at least get your facts straight. Although labeled FUTA/SUTA, UI is unemployment insurance priced using a tax like structure. It is not a tax. It's insurance.

If you wrecked your truck today, would you still be too cool to make an insurance claim???

The extended federal coverage (futa) in some states that were hit hard, was a direct indisputable failure of the federal government. Again a forced premium by the gov that creates a payable condition when certain criteria is met.

And you shouldn't collect when the carpet gets yanked out again why???

Because the economy took a sh1t and businesses caved
It's really offensive when people like you run their flaps on the Internet. I know phd that are out of work, you think you have more to offer this world than a phd? It's called being over qualified because scabs go in and do the jobs that should be paying a high dollar and they work for pennies on the dollar.

But a counter you may have is they could go work at mcdonalds right? Well if you go work for a job that isn't even covering the bills wtf Is the point right when that time could be spent job hunting for a real job or continuing education

I myself am a victim of this economy and Crookster bankers and finally had enough of the unstable industry I was in and now I am going to go do what I have always wanted to do and have job security to boot.

guess you don't pay attention to the economy.

1/2 the retail jobs are gone. woolworth closed their doors after 125 years. circuit city went by by after 60 years. bed bath and beyond, linens n things. compusa. just to name a few.

airline pilots. they make nowhere near what they used to. before 9/11.

construction disappeared. the only thing happeneing was highway projects.

the way i see it, there's only 2 jobs that aren't dependant on what the economy does. ANYTHING MEDICINE, AND ANYTHING LAW. people wll always get sick, and lawyers will always want to sue.

as for the rest of us. we have to rely on the economy to pay our bills.

and companies don't hire us workers. half our jobs went overseas. the other half. are being taken over by automation. compound that with families multiplying 10 times. the population is growing faster then jobs.

I had to have the letters as well.
One was from my sister, the other from an ex-employer/friend.

They don't have to be long and complex. A simple letter stating how they know you and personal knowledge of your employment status of the time in question.
