The rules of this forum prohibit asking about specific companies. You should probably ask your question in the Swift forum of the "Motor Carrier Questions-The Inside Scoop" section of the website.

If you want to go flatbed with Swift, then go directly into training for flatbed out of orientation. Otherwise you will end up training for 200 hours behind the wheel in van, then have to do that all over again in flatbed. Best to go right into flatbed from the start, do the 5 day course, and get out with a trainer.
Buy the load securement book and study it. It's available at most truck stops. -

You can start with the online or downloadable pdf version here:

I've found this book to be very helpful as well:

Thanks Lepton. The book is not available FYI - doesn't matter though - The FMCSA site looks like it will have everything I need to learn. -
If you come from the dry van side you will need 6 months experience, good risk analysis, and they will put you through a 5 day securement class.
This is the mileage pay for company flatbed drivers thanks to bab1369. The important part is the 300+ mile pay since we don't do anything shorter than that.

We also get $30 tarp pay, $18 chain pay (for chassis loads), $15 stop pay.truckerdan007, bab1369 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
Thanks for that update, plant. However, I think the pay rate on the attachment no longer applies. Add $0.03 to $0.04 per mile for the rates after the recent company wide pay increase.

That is the new pay scale, we got our raise at the beginning of june.
