The rules of this forum prohibit asking about specific companies. You should probably ask your question in the Swift forum of the "Motor Carrier Questions-The Inside Scoop" section of the website.

If you want to go flatbed with Swift, then go directly into training for flatbed out of orientation. Otherwise you will end up training for 200 hours behind the wheel in van, then have to do that all over again in flatbed. Best to go right into flatbed from the start, do the 5 day course, and get out with a trainer.

Buy the load securement book and study it. It's available at most truck stops.

I just looked on amazon, and there were a few. Is there one that is regarded as being THE book? Thanks

Swift flatbed is great. Good pay, good trucks, lots of miles. They change the new driver process seemingly every other day, but how it's supposed to work is you take a phase 1 securement class, go out with a flatbed (or dry van) mentor for ~120 hours, take a phase 2 securement class, and then finish your 240 hours of behind the wheel training with a flatbed mentor.

If you come from the dry van side you will need 6 months experience, good risk analysis, and they will put you through a 5 day securement class.

This is the mileage pay for company flatbed drivers thanks to bab1369. The important part is the 300+ mile pay since we don't do anything shorter than that.

We also get $30 tarp pay, $18 chain pay (for chassis loads), $15 stop pay.

Thanks for that update, plant. However, I think the pay rate on the attachment no longer applies. Add $0.03 to $0.04 per mile for the rates after the recent company wide pay increase.
