    Got word a few days ago cameras are about to be pulled. Pilot program either failed or was so scary swift did not want to know or take liability for what they did know. OBVIOUSLY its because swift drives are so good these cameras made no sense to add on to trucks because we are so safe that dms are handing out Pre paid legal plans.

    Some good news here at Wal Mart. This past week they announced that after consulting with the legal Dept...they have decided against installing cameras in and on the trucks. They will permit drivers to buy and operate their own dash cams but they must;

    1) cannot be mounted where they will cause a distraction or impede vision out the windows. (I have seen them mounted on the centers of windshields...honest)

    2) must meet the camera rules of the company.(no filming inside facilities without permission..turn it off at the gate.)

    3)in case of an accident, the footage becomes property of Wal Mart and is to be handed over immediately.

    Talking with other drivers, they all agree this is reasonable and all is happy, happy, happy:)

    They can't legally do that regardless of what a driver agrees to. If its the drivers camera, its the drivers camera. Footage from it may prove innocence OR may prove guilt. You can't legally be forced to incriminate yourself. Regardless of what Walmart thinks, their not above the 5th amendment.

    They absolutely can do that legally. You need to go read the 5th amendment. It says you can't be forced to incriminate yourself in a criminal case in a court of law. A violation of company policy is not a criminal case and Walmart is not a court of law. Therefore nothing in the 5th amendment applies.

    Beyond that, they are an at-will employer and they own the equipment. If they want to set terms which requires you to give them ownership of any video your dashcam shoots while its in their truck, it is perfectly legal for them to do so. If you don't like their terms, you're free to go work elsewhere.

    It appears a thread merge was done and older responses are now mixed in.

    No, this is a revived thread. The other one is still there.
