    14 camera systems have been installed in Phoenix based trucks and 2 other fleet's have been outfitted with these lovely little monsters.
    They have a forward facing camera monitoring traffic and a driver facing camera that scans the entire cab not to mention records in cab audio.
    Swift is currently in a pilot program with smart drive for the next 70 some days determining whether or not to take these devices company wide.
    Be aware if you are one of the unfortunate few to have one anywhere you can see the lens from inside the cab it can see you back and if your unfortunate enough to be in a sleeper truck roughly 65% of your sleeper will be exposed to view without curtains drawn. These camera's "can" record up to 180 hours before writing over previous information. ALL video is sent to smart drive first and then to swift for disciplinary action if necessary.This camera does not shut off when the ignition goes off it will continue to record inside and out as long as the truck is running or idling and an hour after the truck has been shut down. These camera's record continuously and in the event of a trigger sends 20 seconds of video (ten seconds prior and Ten seconds after a trigger) to smart drive. You will never ever know how much information this company has gathered from your truck because not all of it will ever make it to swift.

    Is sending it to smartdrive any better than swift first?

    They act like it is. HA! xD

    why not just leave it running if not idling o_O how you gonna catch that hit & run?

    or maybe they want that hit & run?

    tax write offs?

    oh they don't pay much of those....

    That's right!!! Any and all of swifts effort to get new drivers and especially retain current drivers just completly went out the door!!! I have to ask myself if swift upper management is ven thinking at all......one policy that completly cancels another .....stupid and pointless.....

    If a company has to constantly video record their drivers...the. Many be the company should rethink their hiring practices..

    As long as the video is attached to the ECM... so if camera breaks truck doesnt start. perfect mega carrier management logic.

    Their stock price took a (big) hit the other day, and they cited their inability to keep drivers in the seats as the primary cause.

    “There has been a driver shortage that has been getting incrementally worse as the economy improves and they have to fight for employees with the housing sector”
    Yeah, it's definitely not because your company is garbage or anything.

    “We want drivers to start with Swift in our schools and remain with Swift until they retire.”
    That sounds like the literal definition of hell.

    What does the average company driver make at SWIFT? $300 to $400 a week? Anyone who is willing to drive a big rig for that little of pay probably won't mind having a camera monitoring them 24/7
