Not sure what you're getting at.

The vid was posted on another forum by another driver who gave a description of the video, including why the truck lurched as he was pulling over to the shoulder. It is clear that the SUV struck his truck and THATS why both pulled off the interstate.

I simply posted the link because this would be a classic case of her word against his about who hit who and how it happened. Without the vid it would be hard for the truck to prove his version of the accident.

Thats why why I was curious as to how many are actually using dash cams to CYA and secondly based on the vid did you think from his point of view that this accident was preventable.
    Thanks!!

i know that guy, it was listed for him as non preventable, in that case the mini van owned up to being dumb, the crappy thing for Guy was there was a 2 year old in a car seat right where the van hit him, the kid was fine though.

And its reasons like that i have bought dash cam. Too many people driving with the head stuck to a cell phone and not looking to not have one.

This is an excellent post. I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these in the very near future. I drive mostly at night so does anyone have a recommendation for a high quality dash cam with night vision??

The night vision isn't that great on any of the cams so get whatever you want. If you think your going to catch a license plate with any camera your wrong. They have special cams that are connected to a computer and know where to look and zoom in. You can pretty much check out any YouTube trucker video and you can't make out the plate.

The GoPro is kind of expensive but records high def and 170 degrees. Depending on the SD memory card you can record up to 14 hours and more non stop before it writes over itself. The GoPro also breaks up videos into 20 minute chunks that can be put back together if needed. This is a nice feature because if something happens on the road you can just write down the current time then select the 20 minute chunk later to watch.

go-pro = 400 bucks the one i listed was under 100 after buying a high quality SD card... also recording at 1080p you can get a decent look at a plate if you need to. Remember youtube compresses videos which costs quality.

this is from my dash cam........ if you look at the left side hood mirror you will see I can't move over because I was being passed by a pu....... then look at the right mirror and see just how close I was to getting sideswiped by the motorhome......

I have a (2) 4-sight 720 hd with 32gb sd cards, 8 hr's of hd video before it loops set for 1mim blocks of record time......
true YOU can't make out a plate but LOE have software that will..... remember the truck (Canada) that was almost hit head on buy a truck passing a snowplow last year (it was on here and the news) couldn't see much in the video but after 3 weeks of LOE working on the dash cam video they had the name of the company, truck number, plate number and a clear pic of the driver.....

Dang Flood that really a close one there. I think my minds made after watching these. If for no other reason than to protect myself if and when something foolish happens so I'm not left with my word vs theirs.
