Some of the locations you claimed "aren't bad" expect you to cough up your trailer and wait for another. There were plenty that I avoided like the plague...

Was my opinion of shops not terminal as a whole should have been around when you did not give up trailer. Its a tad better now that they do that. But yes some times I won't go to terminal if I have a brand new trailer

Lepton.. you don't tell your DM the dang thing broke (baring safety issues) till you are close to a reputable shop AND you coincidentally you have time. Haha I love it... that's using our head! I will take this advice to heart. Reputable shops when ever possible. . O and the one terminal (Richmond) that is 8 miles from my house. If they take there time I might not mind so much :)

On the subject of maintaining equipment. When I get out there I'm sure I won't be the only driver with a mechanical background. How does Swift feel about drivers doing repairs... nothing major adjust brake slacks, replace mirror or lights. Perhaps an air line. No in frames LOL. Also if the driver is allowed to do there small repairs are they compensated for there time or you just chalk it up to money not lost waiting to have it done.

You won't be paid anything for your time.
Unless you are certified to work on self-adjusting brakes, DON'T!
Little things done by the driver they like, like lights and mud flaps and fuses...

    HousTank and Lepton1 Thank this.

It's a legal issue. If a person hired as a driver performs safety-related maintenance on a vehicle and something happens - an accident resulting in injury or property damage - the company will deny any responsibility, specifying that the driver was neither hired nor indoctrinated as a mechanic. That leaves 100% of the liability on the driver. That's not a good place to be.

    Moosetek13 and HousTank Thank this.

    Exactly so.

We are paid to drive, not fix.
Anything we do can come back directly on us if something goes wrong.

I'll put on a mud flap, change a bulb, or even install a new air filter.
Beyond that though, I'll call someone to fix my truck properly.

I don't adjust the brakes, I don't change out fuel filters, or anything else that may cause a problem down the road if I did it wrongly.
I'd rather be down a few hours and simply send a Mac22.

    CYA!

    HousTank Thanks this.
