the only issue i have with all this sleep apnea guidelins is that they are just targeting overweight people. skinny people have it too. so if they are going to make it mandatory(which i'm sure will happen), they need to do sleep study on everyone.

And that will be my cue to quit trucking.

I don't have a problem in that area, but I would have a problem with a sleep test.
I'm not about to be put under a microscope while I'm trying to sleep.
And I sure as heck won't EVER wear the gear.

There are two types of sleep apnea tests; at home or you go to a lab and they hook you up. If you can, ask for the at home study. My sleep center gives you the equipment though other centers may not. I know this as my doctor just ordered one. I had trouble at the sleep center and didn't provide sufficient data, so now I'm doing the at home one. When doing the sleep study, you need to provide at least 4 hours of sleep time to produce sufficient data. Hope this helps.

Prime hired a 20+ year driver from Crete who went out and slaughtered a family. He fell asleep, and ran a red light. Turns out he'd been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, but wasn't using a CPAP machine. That started testing at Prime.

They only test you based on a doctors diagnosis. Testing is done by Sleep Pointe at a facility in the terminal, and drivers get a break on the cost. In contrast, Schneider National tests all drivers. Its cheaper than paying liability judgments. Don't kid yourselves... the insurance companies determine who gets a seat, based on how much of a risk you present.

BTW, my last physical was done by Concentra, and I was screened for sleep apnea... no requirement for testing was indicated.

Is it the actual CPAP machine truckers are so against or is it big brother? I for one LOVE LOVE LOVE my CPAP and just had my DOT renewed using only my data download. My download showed 99.9% compliance with an average of 10hrs sleep per session logged. I never fall asleep driving and rarely am tired behind the wheel. I used to have trouble falling asleep but now use meditation CD's and they work like a charm. My DM forbade me from turning off the Qualcom volume during sleep but I do it anyway. Those 10 hours are mine, messages can wait until I wake up and deal with them.

I'm just trying to figure out if Swift will send someone home because they're fat. I had a sleep study done a few years ago, and it showed that I do not have apnea.

Forbade you!?! They must think you're some 2-year old or something.

My DM wouldn't have the nerve to tell me something like that as she already knows how I feel about my 10's. That's MY time...not Swifts. Anything they have to tell me during that period can wait. I do check it if I'm awake but I won't be on "call" for them during that period and that includes my phone.

Don't sleep 4 hours straight ... older, some calcification on the old prostrate and on diuretics ...I'll wake up a 2 or 3 of times and piss, every 1 to 2 hours, then sleep through for 3 to 4 hours ... make me uncomfortable - like strapping a mask on my face or a testing monitor - I'll wake up every hour and feel like crap when I get up.

I'm the same way, in much the same ways.
I wake up 2 or 3 times a night. Sometimes to pee.
Having a mask on my face, when I usually sleep on my stomach, would really bother me. It would cause me to lose a LOT of sleep.
And I would always be worried about the cord wrapping around my neck when I roll over.
