How about...
If you are in it only for the money, you should not be in it at all.
It may not be funny, but it is certainly true.
What do mentors make ?

I can say a mentor can make minimum wage with a trainee that can't keep the left door shut.
Broccelli Thanks this. -
Hopefully, in a month, a mentor can make 1 decent driver out of a student!

That was funny!!!Lepton1 Thanks this. -
So, how does a mentor get paid?
Is the rate your current cpm plus a certain cpm rate based on student's drive time?
What is that rate?
What other pay is involved in training students?
I'm curious about this. Money wouldn't be my motivation to train someone but I would think that the extra money would make up for the inconvenience of sharing your truck plus the added risk of having a student.
How do you become a mentor?
Are you referred to the program by your DM or is it something you approach them with?
How long is the training?
Thanks in advance. -
The process I went through was to ask my DM. Then apply for the program on the kiosk, which has to be approved by your DM. Then you need to attend a two day mentor orientation. Once completed you are then assigned a brand new truck and send a message when you are ready to take on a trainee.
You are paid at your rate(s) for all miles driven by you or your trainee. If you get a productive trainee then during team driving phase you double your income.
Every quarter you make a mileage bonus for all trainees that upgraded to solo or team. The first year that's a penny per mile. I'm not sure how long you get the bonus per trainee, maybe for six months. The second year the bonus per mile is two cents. If you get several productive graduates that can be a nice check.
Platinum or other bonus levels also apply.
The first half of 2014 I was on a dedicated team, switching to mentoring starting July 1st. I finished the year just shy of $60K gross. I expect with a full year of mentoring next year I'll be around $75K.
The money's good, but there's nothing like getting calls and texts from graduates telling you how much they appreciate and fall back on the fundamentals you taught them. Especially when you had a summer trainee and coached them how to run the Rockies in snow and ice, but they never got to do it for real until they were on their own and all that coaching and chaining lessons kicked in.
It just feels good to give back a little. Pay it forward.DarkCanyon Thanks this. -
