I had to wait a week and half due to back ups at the dmv test site and other people falling and having to retest and have wife and 13 month old at home plus my wife's hamper passed away. On top of it all I'm an hour from the greer terminal and 6 hours from richmond. Just allowed me to be home while waiting.

I did my mentor orientation in Greer. Seems like a good crew to me.

That's good to hear, hope I get on with a good crew, and a good mentor. I have a question, what's the good/bad between choosing reefer, dry van, or flatbed?

Most train out in dry van, it's easier. You don't get paid more for pulling reefer. You DO get $0.04 per mile more for pulling flatbed, plus tarp pay, etc. If you decide to go flatbed then do your training in flatbed instead of dry van, although I understand the shortage of flatbed mentors is greater than dry van. I believe you'll need to go through five days of securement training to go flatbed, but not sure if that applies if you train in flatbed. Others can give better advise in this area.

I've mulled switching to flatbed for the physical work and better paycheck, also noting the need for mentors.

That would be good pay increase. I'm not too worried about needing the physical work at least as of yet, never could gain weight even if I tried which is actually no fun. Only thing that would hold me back is home time. I have plenty of time to figure it out I figure, lol.

Welcome and good luck to you! The first day of orientation may be a bore fest as you probably did much of it at the Academy.

Well about to head to bed, day 2 down and know I'm hired so final day of paper work and issue driver number and card tomorrow and see when I get a mentor. Didn't even remember this week is Thanksgiving, oh well.
