I'm curious when it hit your Qualcomm. I drive local (Charlotte) so I knew where I was going anyway but sometimes have nav on just for the hell of it (sound off). It hit my Qualcomm at about 1615 or so today as I was heading back into Charlotte. I'm wondering if it all went out at the same time because wtf were they thinking if it did? Rush hour on the east coast and the Qualcomm goes down for 15-20 minutes while it updates? Granted it does actually add some nice features but did it really have to happen at that time?

Some people could have really been/gotten screwed if it was company wide, was it just mine?

Well they still had at least two accidents on 12/9.

I'm sure they did I'm talking of the time it was done. Middle of the night would not affect as many.

Ok, dumb question. What does the system update have to do with you driving?
Don't you know where you are going and do you not have a regular map to use...

I am curious about the same thing. Wondering if your qc is different from mine? Does the truck just shut down while it is updating?

"Some people could have really been/gotten screwed if it was company wide, was it just mine?"

If those people "would of gotten screwed" as a result of not having a qualcom they have no business being on the road. Those are the people who hit bridges and blame the nav. It's called knowing were you are going. I use a gps but you better believe I know exactly were I am going if that ever shuts down. I dream of the day my QC shuts down and leaves me alone.

I am relatively young and only have a year experiance. So I would be considered part of the new generation of truckers and if this is the mentality of the new generation (ie my generation) of truck drivers god help us all

Before it starts the update, there is a screen pop asking if you waeto update now or delay ... the delay lasts about 45 minutes then asks again ... beyond that .... so what? Ye should know where you're going.

The only issue I have with updates, is invariably they happen when I'm getting ready to do a loaded or empty call and I have to wait for the #### thing to finish.

Mine updated this morning. It did ask me now or wait so I just said wait since I knew that I was going to be parked in about 20 minutes and it could do its thing then. Then fun trying to fugure out the new NAV system to get to the large screen that I like to use.

This is one of the issues with it updating during the middle of the work day. Also just because some of you "know" (I doubt you do) the road does not mean at times you could have been in a new area and needed the Qualcomm to help you out. Say for instance you are in a big city and a road is closed on your route due to a super chicken hauler who knows the road, but somehow ran over a few cars thus putting you in a situation where you could use some navigation help. Another point is we are talking about Swift drivers, many of who may be new and won't know the road so well. This is a new generation and being blind to the fact that people entering this business now are accustomed to having a gps or nav system and not a physical map is just not reality.

Mine went out, but did not cause any situation due to me having all my drop numbers written down, but it could have with hours of service when on a pinch easily. The timing was bad, and I did not see a "update" delay prompt while driving because I was driving and may have missed it if it did pop up. I like the new look, but the lane assist is crappy because it seems to only come up right before an exit. I know one of the greatest features of an old Garmin gps I had was the lane assist, it would show all the upcoming lanes miles before you got up to them. This would make it look as though you drove the road all the time and knew your lane sequences even when you didn't.
